Hog Cholera Outbreaks

During the recent forty day period, beginning January 1, 1965, through February 10, there were 34 cases of hog cholera reported in Georgia.
Of these 34 cases, 22 occurred in the four counties shown below: COFFEE, 15; Irwin, 3; Atkinson, 2; and Berrien, 2.
Other counties that have had an outbreak of cholera are listed in the column at left. The outbreaks in the area drawn below are due primarily to a few people moving exposed or sick hogs. Farmers who live in or around this section should be particularly careful when purchasing or moving hogs. Moving exposed or sick hogs is in violation of state laws and regulations. All persons suspecting hog cholera should report immediately to their local veterinarian, county agent, or the State Department of Agriculture. The state will pay for all hogs that die or are condemned due to cholera.
