RODUCTION A BLESSING

omologist Gives Fire Ant
trol Measures For Farms

Distribution Creates
Actual Farm Problem

By PHIL CAMPBELL
Commissioner of Agriculture

There is no farm problem in this coun-
try from the standpoint of production, de-
spite the harsh words of some politicians

_and the thousands of articles written an-

nually on this subject.

There is a problem but the problem
is one of marketing and distribution.

For years now so many experts
have cussed and discussed the farm
problem that I am afraid a great many of
the people of this nation consider it a
curse to be able to produce an overabun-
dance of food and fiber.

_ I dont consider it a curse to be
able to produce enough food to keep the
people of this nation from going hungry.

I dont consider it a curse to be able to
produce enough cotton and wool to keep
our people warm and comfortably cloth-
ed.

I dont consider it a curse to produce so
much that we can have a reserve although
this reserve is not as great as some peo-
ple may have been led to believe.

I dont consider it a curse to have such
a great productive potential that we can
not only deter war but protect smaller
and weaker nations from aggression.

A study of past civilizations shows
that the major problems faced by many
nations of the past was that of producing
enough food and fiber and many great
nations have failed because they were
not able to adequately feed and clothe
their people.

To my way of thinking it is time our
government and a great many of our peo-
ple took a new and longer look at agri-
culture in America today.

God has seen fit to bestow upon us the
greatest blessing of alla rich and pro-
ductive soil, the true mother of all life
on earth, and yet to hear some of our na-
tional leaders talk, you would think Gods
blessing is in reality a curse.

The agricultural strength of America
is the very foundation upon which our
military and economic survival rests. I
is not a curse but a great blessing and one
for which we should all be thankful,
