Conservation Reserve
- Deadline Approaching

April 15 is the last date that farmers

can sign Soil Bank Conservation Reserve
. contracts to begin in 1957 or modify ex-
' isting 1956 contracts, according to John

F. Bradley, State Administrative Officer
of the Georgia Agricultural Stabilization

| and Conservation Committee. Originally,

the deadline was a month earlier.

_ The later closing date will give farm-
ers a better opportunity to fit their crop-
ping plans.to their new production pat-
tern, according to Bradley. Since land
placed in the Conservation Reserve may
not be used for the production of crops
for a period of years, the fewer acres

available for cropping may require some
adjustment in crops usually produced on

the farm or in the fields used for their

production.

The Conservation Reserve is the inne
range program of the Soil Bank, Under it,
farmers may sfgn contracts to divert gen-

Children At Vidalia
Receive Free Milk

Honorable Phil Campbell :
Commissioner of Agriculture -

State Agriculture Building

Atlanta 3, Ga.

Dear Mr. Campbell:

Your editorial in the Market Bulletin

of Feb. 20 about the milk program has
been called to my attention.

I thought perhaps you would be in-
terested in learning about-the free milk
program in the Vidalia Schools. We began
our free milk program the first of Feb-
ruary 1955, two years ago. We operate
our program similar to the program dis-

cussed in your editorial. Each child gets

one 1/2 pint of milk with his lunch and
is served an extra 1/2 pint of milk with-
out extra cost to him. Children in the low-
er grades get this extra 1 /2 pint of milk

before they leave school in the after-
-noons, We feel that our program has been

operating most successfully and we ap-

preciate the opportunity to provide this
milk for our children.

Tam enclosing a picture that was made

last year in cooperation with the State

School Lunch Authorities who evidently
endorsed our milk program.

In the picture you will see some sec-
ond grade children getting their milk be-
fore-they go home from school. We have

Land can be seeded for sericea and then
when the contract runs out good manage-
