Housing, Equipment =
For 2,000 Broilers =
The broiler industry has now spread
into sections of South Georgia and more
and more farmers are looking at broiler
production as a possible new source oe
farm income. te
Although there are a number of fac oe
tors to be considered before launching a > ea
broiier production program one of the
most important is the availability of the
proper housing and equipment for raising
broilers. 4
The Agricultural Extension Service ~_-
recommends a minimum production of
2,000 birds if a broiler program is to be
worth while. Most broiler growers pro- -
duce from 4,000 to, 6, 000 broilers at the
time and many, of course produce an ev en
. But many farmers interested in broil-
ers want to start small and increase pro-
siness. For these people a minimum pro-
duction of 2,000 birds should be consider-
ed and here is what the Extension service
says you will need in the way of housing _
and equipment. .
One house 30 x 80 feet including a 10-. ~
foot feed room. (This will give one square
foot of floor space for each bird). oe
Three brooders of 1,000 chick capaci-
ty
Three chick guards to circle brooders.
20 one gallon j jar waterers to use when
the birds are small.
Eight 8 foot automatic waterers or 16
four feot waterers. :
36 four foot chick size feeders with | .
stands. a
48 five foot broiler feeders oth stands.
(If hanging tubular feeders are used in-
stead of trough feeders you will need 60 of
these).
The Agricultural Extension Service
has a plan for a 30-foot wide pole type
gable roof broiler house with ridge vent-
ilators It can be built any length and you
can get a blue print and list of needed ma-
terial from your county agent or by writ-
ing the Agricultural Extension Service,
College of Agriculture, University of
Georgia, Athens.
