QUARANTINE:

In July, 1952, this Division received
information that a herd of hogs was sus-
pected of being infected with Vesicular
Exanthema. The herd was immediately
quarantined and tests set up. Results of
test were positive.

As the results of the test were posi-
tive indicating that the disease was in
Georgia, a Quarantine Sub-Division was
immediately set up and all inspectors
transferred to this division with addition-
al inspectors added. A twenty-four hour
inspection service was instaHed covering
all highways, roads and railroads entering
Georgia.

The duties of the inspectors on the
State Lines were to see that no livestock,
pork or pork products entered Georgia
without the approved health certificates,
disinfection certificates and permits in
accordance with Georgias requirements.

This service was continued until July.
of 1954. :

In addition to ae inspectors were
assigned to work contacting all garbage
feeders in the State to see that all raw
garbage was cooked in accordance with
regulations before being fed to swine.

The last outbreak of V. E. in Georgia
occurred in January of 1954. During the

period from July, 1952 through January,

1954, fourteen herds were involved and
indemnity paid on 4,390 head of swine.
