The above vividly illustrates the great
change in educational opportunities that
have been brought about in ninety-nine
years. a
Out of those early academies and
from private tutors came some of the
great leaders of our history. After allis _
said, the advantages of educational op-
portunities depend, in the long run, on
how well students and teachers make the
most of their opportunities.
Even today, it is remarkable the num-
ber of successful men in business and
ities were very limited. On the other
hand, we see numerous persons with one
or more college degrees who seem un-
able to make more than a mediocre suc-
cess in business or the professions. All
of this might indicate that each individual
- has natural limitations. It might indicate _ i
that a major field in education should be
to develop a system for determining the
proper field of each student and his nat-
ural ability and limitations and then to
develop each student along those lines
which will be of greatest benefit to him
and to the state.
