to say to each of these, hitherto shall ye
come and no further.
I stated that when these men met in
Philadelphia in 1776 they had these ideas
in mind. It was not until after the close |
of the War of the Revolution that these
| ideas actually were written into the Con-
j stitution in 1787, but the idea was in
their minds all the while.
During those formative years their dis-
cussions, debates and campaign issues the
differences between the ideas of these
men were gradually worn away, the
rough places were smoothed out and
compromises were reached until finally
in the Constitutional Convention of 1787,
under the direction of George Washing-
ton, the Constitution of the United States
came into being.
It is no wonder that the people of
America have met on the 4th of each
July with drums beating and flags wav-
ing, with bountiful feasts and gala enter-
tainment to celebrate the*anniversary of
the day when the Declaration of Inde-
pendence was signed. It is fit and prop-
er that we should do this. It would ill-
become us as the beneficiaries of the
courage and intellect of our grandsires
not to remember and not to honor this
day on suitable ways. And, it is for these
reasons and in this spirit we are met here
today.
However, there is something more im-
. portant, something more becoming, some-
thing more indispensable than celebrat-
ing the 4th of July if we are to bequeath
to coming generations the heritage which |
we ourselves have received. If we are to

EARLY. BOLL WORM
INFESTATION ALA!) AING
The Boll Weevil Situation Still Serious-Weevils Continue To Emerge
' The following article from Mr. E. C.
Westbrook, Extention Agronomist
Athens, Georgia, is very important at
this time and I am carrying it for the
information of the farmers of the state.
Boll worms appeared in a large percentage
of Georgia counties in the southern half of
| the state during the third week of June and
ite some of the lower piedmont counties. This
is-two to three weeks earlier than this pest
usually appears in Georgia. It presents a most
serious situation. Usually the boll worm does
not do serious damage to cotton until field
corn becomes too hard for the boll worm
(the boll worm is the same thing as the corn
ear worm or the tomato fruit worm) to eat.
his year the boll worm has appeared before
field corn generally came into silk. When the
corn generally comes into silk some of the
boll worms may return to corn, but not all oi
them. After the field corn becomes hard ad-
ditional worms may be expected to go to the
cotton.
Boll worms are difficult to kill. They have
been destroying lots of squares, in addition to
bolls. Some farmers have thought they were
kill when they are small. They cannot be
reached with poison when they have their
heads in a boll or square. When they move
around is when they get the poison.
The following poisons are recommended:
12 to 15 pounds of 10% DDT to the acre; a
mixture of 2'2% BHC10% DDT, plus sul-
