irty odd years ago when
almetto flats along the river.
Because of the topography of
the country, many of the best
farms and farmers in Telfair
County were along this Old
Ridge Road.
About 11:00 oclock I turned
off the main road and followed
a farm road across a branch
and through a ridge covered
with Turkey oaks and Black-
jack oaks, finally coming to a
wire fence around a large field.
This field had been planted
the year before in corn and Vel-
vet beans. A number of hogs
were in the field because they
had not yet consumed all the
Velvet beans although it was
planting time.
Out in the field some two hun-
dred yards from the fence I
- saw a man plowing two mules
breaking land. Climbing the
fence I started across the field
and the man seeing my ap-
proach stopped his mules to
wait. Approaching him I saw
aman of rather small statue
with the brown hard skin that
goes with constant exposure in
the fields and in the open. As I
approached he pulled off his hat
All Sunday School Officers:
_ The following is communication I have received from Mrs. John D. Faver,Chair-
man Executive Board of The Cerebral Palsy Society of Georgia:
(Suggested PrayerSund ay Following Thanksgiving)
_ OUR GRACIOUS AND MOST MERCIFUL HEAVENLY FATHER: With heavy
hearts and with great humility, we humbly come before Thee with the plea of these
parents. Help us to understand Thy Holy Will that we may aid them in their efforts
to obtain for these children a more normal life.
At this Thanksgiving season we are glad that these mothers can be grateful that
n their combined efforts there is hope for their children. Help us, who have been
spared the sorrow that is theirs, express our gratitude by acting in behalf of these
children. Make us restless until we shall have done our part. Help-us to be alert to
the needs of humanity. Fill us with zeal for human service that we may have the joy
of Thy fellowship. In full realization of our responsibilities to each other and to every
child born into this world we ask these things in the name of Him who died that we
may have life eternalJesus, the Christ. - Amen.
_ The mothers of 4,000 Cerebral Palsied Children in Georgia are asking your pray-
ers today. May the Spirit of God guide us all toward making possible a more normal
lite for these children and toward preventing the hundreds of afflicted babies born
each year from being so sadly neglected. They ask that anyone wishing to join them
their efforts, write the Cerebral Palsy Society of Georgia, Box 4507, Atlanta, Ga.

and wiped the sweat from his
face. As I came up and told him
my name, he said, I am Gena
Talmadge.
As we talked Boat farming
and fertilizer, he sat down on
the beam of the plow unlacing
his shoes and emptied out the
dirt that all plowmen know gets
in the shoes of those who follow
the furrows. I sold him a car of
fertilizer and we talked about
the war and politics of the day.
Then I cranked up my old Tin
Lizzie and went on to find other
customers. d
About ten years afterwards,
in 1926, Gene Talmadge was a
candidate for Commissioner of
Agriculture. In the meantime,
in 1922, I was elected as Repre-
sentative of Jeff. Davis County
in the State Legislature and
served four years. In the spring
of 1926, Gene Talmadge came
to my house at Hazelhurst and
told me he wanted to run for
Commissioner of Agriculture.
I told him that I would support
him and that I had a number of
friends in the Legislature
throughout the State who would
also support him.
What happened from then um
til now is history. Suffice it is
to say here that Mr. Talmadge
served five and one-half years
as Commissioner of Agricul-
ture and was elected Governor
in 1932. The money for the
campaign was contributed by a
few loyal friends, none of whom
were able to give very much. It
seems almost fantastic now,
but in this first successful cam-
paign for Governor by Tal-
madge, there were spent only
about twelve thousand dollars
for verything.
Because of the experience
gained in that campaign, I am
of the opinion that most of the
