millions of people. were going without fo

as.much food as they needed.

These Bureaucrats were unable to

read the signs of the times.

They looked at the wheat fields, at
the hogs on the farm, at the corn and

the cattle and Bey said there is too .

much food.

They burned wheat and corn, they
killed cattle and hogs and plowed un-
der the cotton in the fields. 3

The common peovle of America had
enough native wit. to know that this
destruction was sinful, wasteful and a
violation of Divine law.

Public sentiment forced the Bureau-

erats to discontinue this open destruc-
tion of food and fiber.

And he shall speak . great
words against the most High, and
shall wear out the saints of the
most High, and think to change
times and laws: and they shall be
given into his hand until a time and
time and the dividing of time.
Daniel 7:25.

The - Bureaucrats
outdone. They thought to
times and laws. |

They were still dolecnined: to re-

change

duce American production. They were

still determined to import foreign foods
and fibers. |

According they rented the farmers
lands, they hired him to let his land
lie out. They paid him not to produce.

When this method of destroying
crops by hiring the farmer to let his
land lie out became old, when people

became tired of it, they hit upon an-

other plan.

They were still determined to
change the times and the laws.

_ Congress passed an act that is eall-
ed the Price Stabilization Act and they
ereated the office of Price Adminis-
trator.

By. the simple expediency of fixing
ceilings on the farmers crops so that
the farmers could not make a profit,
they again stifled production. t

This stifling of production by OPA
is going on at full blast today in the
face of world famine.

The Administration encourages in-
dustrial workers to strike for higher
pay with the result that the farmer
eannot buy equipment with which to
produce food.

The OPA sets ceilings on Sarin

from producing, :

They still cannot read the signs: of

the times in which they live.

Listening to the radio a day or two.

3 ago, I heard of an expert from the
United States Department of Agricul- -

ture who told Congress that the farm-

~ers would not feed cattle and hogs on
corn if the price of corn was increased,

Think of a government expert, pre-
sumably a college graduate, taking up _
the time of the United States Congress
_to propound such an elemental truth.
The trouble of this experts test-

imony was that he told a half-truth.
He should have said that if che

price of corn is increased, the farmers <
would not feed it to Cattle and hogs |
unless the price of cattle and Hoe fs 2

is 58 cents.
When we add 58 centsto $2.33, we find
that a bushel of American corn is worth

The OPA ceiling price on the tae
a States farmers corn is about 1. 21 =

Thus we see that the United States
farmer is paying a special tax of $1.70

on every bushel of corn that he sells.

This is a tax that is levied. and

collected through the operation of OPA.
It is taxation without representa-
tion at the rate of 58 per cent. The

OPA is doing the same thing to the
American corn grower that King James.

was doing to the American Colonies

King James thought to change a

Farmers. are reporting ex-
cellent yields from the re-
cently introduced Gatan Soy-
bean. Some growers have had

tbetter success than others, but

the majority are well pleased
with their first trials.

The new soybean variety is
a result of the soybean breed-
ing program of the Georgia
Experiment Station. It origin-
ated from a natural cross with
Otootan, which has been se-
lected until practically uni-

form.
Gatan produces a tall viny
hay-type plant similar to Ot-

ootan and matures a week lat-
er. The seed are. reddish
brown in. color and. small
(about 5,000 to the pound) re-

|quiring about 15 to 20 pounds

of seed to the acre when plant-
ed in rows. It has been a con-
sistent seed producer every
year and has averaged 14.7
bushels per acre the past ten
years compared with 8.2 bush-
els for Otootan. |

The main advantage of Gat
an are high yieldsof seed and
hay, does not shatter easily,
good quality of hay, and small
size of seed which permits a
low. seeding rate.

This variety was first re-
leased to farmer growers in
11944 and has been increased
until some seed is now avail-
able. ( The Station ae a list
