make Georgia self-sustaining in food in 1943. His
irst move is the full organization of all 4-H Clubs in
Georgia, all Future Farmers of America organizations
within the State, and all Boy Scout and Girl Scout
groups. - ee
The plan is for the young farm boys and girls of
Georgia to move up front in farm management and
food production this year. This idea Commissioner
Linder takes from a suggestion by Charles J. Haden,
\tlanta capitalist,.who says, The farm population
as_been drained by the demands of war. Its up to
those who are too old for the draft, and those who are
too young, to take over the job of managing the farm
and producing the crops we are certain to lose
less someone steps in to handle the problems of the
rmer called to arms. Pat
And Commissioner Linder says, We will move
toward our goal with that idea in mind. We will

President Roosevelt has said January 12 is

program well under way by them. -
ane a January 12, said Commissioner Linder, we
reorgia people ought to have a pretty substantial
dea of what we shall do to bring the food crops out
f the soil this year. I am sure, in view of the nation-
il appeal, Georgia will go far beyond storing up food
. her own pantry shelves-_we ought to have a con-
derable store of food left over to help other States.
ble from many standpoints, For instance, he plans
set-up in each county of broken or useless farm
machinery from which source each farmer who needs
Spare parts for.machinery on his farm will be able
to draw to keep his own machinery moving.
Of course, Commissioner Linder realizes that
one of the chief problems will be obtaining containers

s already busy trying to round up a supply of glass
ars, realizing that there is little hope of getting tin
eontainers.
_ Biyery State in the Southeast should study Com-
nissioner Linders plan. The South must be self-
ustaining in food during 1943. There is no longer
any chante of over-producing food. The need for it
will be even greater immediately after the war than
t is now, for we must feed the starving population

eighboring State of Georgia on launching the splen-
lid plan and we believe that it will be carried through
