May Take Place of Silk in Nation

A big increase in the use of Cotton to take the
place of silk if import of that product is stopped,
is predicted by Hon. Columbus Roberts Georgia
Commissioner of Agriculture.

There should be a more general use of Cotton,
sspecially for wearing apparel and if the war situt-
tion reaches the point that import of silk to this
country is cut off, Mr. Roberts said, and if that
situation arises, the South is in fine position to sup-
ply all the goods needed to take the place of silk.

Not only will Cotton supply the demand, but

rayon also, another southern product that is made
of Cotton and forest products.

Cotton goods are fully qualified in texture and

beauty to take the place of silk for womens wear,
so if the flow of silk to the United States is stopped,

or impeded, the American woman need have no

fears about being stylishly and well dressed, as she
will look just as pretty in a Cotton dress.

If the war situation continues and the supply
of silk is slowed up or stopped entirely, it will be
a fine time to turh to Cotton anyway, the Com-
missioner continued. This will prove to the Amer-
ican women the value of Cotton for > and
stockings.

The Crop Reporting Service, Anica estimates
Georgias cotton crop this year at 1,082,000 bales, a
gain of 166,000 bales over the crop of 916 000 in
1939. This will mean quite a big increase in Geor-
gias income this year from cotton over last year.
The yield this year is estimated to be 265 pounds

of lint an acre compared with 227 pounds last year.

Acreage this year is 1,958,000.

Farmers Golden Text |

And Jacob vowed a vow,
saying, If God will be with
me, and will keep me in this
way that I go, and will give
me bread to eat, and rai-
ment to put on,

So that I come again to
my fathers house in peace;
then shall the Lord be my
God:

And this stone, which e
have set for a pillar, shall be
Gods house; and of all that
thou shalt give me I will
surely give a tenth unto
thee.Genesis 28:20-21-22.
