State Entomologist M. S. Yeomans suggests the
lowing methods:
After the squaring has started, dugdne with -
ght calcium arsenate is recommended. From
w to six pounds per acre should be applied.
It
ssential to have even distribution of the calcium
t and for this reason dust guns are recom-
ended. Normally any effort to apply the poison
shaking from buckets or similar devises results
many plants being missed entirely, while others
eive far too much poison and a high percentage
the poison falling to the ground is a total loss.
If a sizeable acreage is to be poisoned, enough

squares, they also cause serious damage to bolls,
The dust
should be applied when the air is still, preferably in
the late afternoon or early in the morning before
the dew dries. If a heavy rain falls within 24 to.
48 hours after application, the poison should be
repeated. Three effective applications, a week to
10 days apart, should give good. control.
Good results have been obtained by mopping s
when the cotton is small, with a mixture of one
pound of calcium arsenate, one gallon of cheap
syrup and one gallon of water. Mix thoroughly
and apply to the buds of small cotton. This is
not recommended after the squares appear.
Where labor is available, picking up the early
fallen squares and burning them is recommended.
The large acreage of Sea Island cotton planted in
Georgia this year should be well poisoned. .
The Grow More Cotton Per Acre Association
in Atlanta, also urges farmers to pick up all fallen
squares. This association says the weevils produce
five generations each summer and says from one
- pair several millions of weevils may be produced.
A Dublin farmer reports he has rigged up a-
frame on his plow which shakes the cotton
Rows next to paths and roads through fields, where
the stalks are rubbed against; end of rows where
the mules and plows are turned and a disturbance
created, have shown a greater absence of weevils
and a better cotton yield.
- Farmers can attach. a cleat, bush or ce to
; theit plow beam that will shake two rows at a
time, while plowing the crop, which if done fre- mole
quently, will help to get rid of the wevils.

Commissioner Columbus Roberts, believing that
Georgia farmers would be interested in knowing
the prices of farm products and livestock in A
lanta each week and that a good medium to gi
- this information are the newspapers, he has res
- quested that such a report be sent to the weekly Z
newspapers in the state.
Mr. Alton Cogdell, Director of the Buren of
Markets, states that hereafter he will mail _ this
report to the papers every Monday, giving current
prices in Atlanta, and he urges all farmers interested
in knowing the prices farm porduce and livestoc
are bringing in Atlanta, to watch for this item
each week in their local paper.
Mr. Cogdell states that some of the editors had
also suggested that such a report ye be inform

Watch For Srew Worm Flies
Numerous reports are coming to the office of the State
Veterinarian, indicating that the Screw Worm Fly is causing
serious damage to livestock over the state, and we believe a
few suggestions to farmers will be advisable at this time.
The worst months are from May Ist to November 15th, and
the danger period is usually over after the first heavy frost.
All animals, cows, hogs,

Castration,
marking or branding should be done before the Fly season or
immediately thereafter.
All animals showing any cuts or
abrasions of the skin and any animal upon which it becomes
necessary to operate, should. be with-held from the pasture and

easier. The navel of newborn
animals should also be treated.
All cuts, bruises and abrasions of the skin should be coated
with pine tar oil.

Attends Tobacco Meeting
Hon, Walter Perkins, Supervisor of Markets of the Georgia
opening dates of the tobacco
Department of Agriculture, is in White Sulphur Springs, West
' Virginia, attending the anrfual session of the Tobacco Association
of the United States, meeting there June 29-30, July Ist. The
markets in Georgia and other
southern states will be set at this convention.
Mr. Perkins stated that he had conferred with many Geor-
_ gia tobacco growers and that most of them favored a late open-
jing date and he said he would urge that the opening date im
Georgia this year bet set around August 1st.
~The opening date last year was July 28th,
and lasted
through August 26th. Fifty-four warehouses operated last year
in 15 towns, the Georgia sales
totaling 92,533,931 pounds,
which brought $18,818,763.95, at an average of 20.34 cents a
pound.
Fitzgerald citizens are seeking the re-establishment of a
market there this year.
The Department of Agriculture, as usual, will issue weekly
-. reports of warehouse sales and this report will be sent to any
~ one requesting a copy.
Same Old Story
From the Tifton Daily Gazette ; :
Picked up one of the Gazettes exchanges the other night.
The wrapper had burst and it was tied with a piece of jute
twine. Somehow or other, we
werent very surprised to open
it up and find an editorial urging more extensive use of cotton.
