Regarding Bill S -2212

Senator Josiah W. Bailey, on April 24th, introduced legis-
lation in the Senate providing fer an annual appropriation of
$5,000,000 to develop and improve the marketing services for

all farm commodities.

Senator Baileys Bil; S. 2212, states that it is for the pur-
pose of organizing, fostering, promoting and developing mar-
-keting services for farm commodities in such State, with a

particular view to providing a

marketing system which will

- furnish a steady flow of standardized basic farm commodities
to centers of distribution and will provide for farmers adequate

and readily available marketing
duced by them.

This Bill has the approval of many of the State Com-

missioners of Agriculture, and

at the meeting of the Com-

missioners of Agriculture held in Washington en May 5th and
6th, unanimous approval in principal was given to the legis-

lation,

Dr. Clarence Poe, Editor of the Progressive Farmer, has

The Bill at the present time is in the Senate Committee
on Agriculture, and it is hoped that it will be reported on the

Alton Cogdell, Georgia Director of the Bureau of Markets,
in writing to the Senators and Congressmen in Washington on
Committees of Agriculture, has made it very clear that it is

te the interest of the farmers

: passed. Mn. Cogdells letter states:

of eee to have this bill

There isnt any state in the union that has adequate

marketing facilities.

We are all in each state trying to do

everything in our power to help the farmer obtain a fair
- price for what he grows and the only thing we lack is a little
- money to set up these marketing facilities.

Congress has apprepriated millions and millions of dol-

| Jars to teach the farmer how to grow farm products and yet,

te my mind, you have neglected the most important part of
the program, and that isproviding funds for each state to
help the farmer realize some eash for what you have spent in

teaching him to grow.

Passage of this bill would mean that about $100,000 would

be spent every year to help the Georgia farmers.

Mr. Cogdell

suggests that Georgia farmers write or wire their Congressman
and Us S. Senators at Washington urging the passage of this
