By Columbus Roberts, Commissioner
We are informed by Mr. Homer S. Durden, of
ens, AAA Administrator, that Georgia Tobacco
rowers voted overwhelmingly for the three-year

higher price when control was in effect. This is
shown by the last two years, 1938 and 1939.
In .1938, under control, Georgia growers sold
92,533,931 pounds for. a total of $18,818;763.95, an
average of 20.34 cents a pound. Last year, when
control was voted down, Georgia farmers sold 98,-
064,064 pounds for $12,562,078.67,
12.82 cents a pound. There was a difference of 6
cents a pound in price and a difference of $6,000,000
in income for the two yearsone year under con-
trol and the other not under control. :
The same thing happened to the cotton crop in
1937. The South grew 19,000,000 bales of cotton, the
biggest crop in history, there being no control.
Georgia grew 1,500,000 bales, the largest crop since
