Rural- Urban Market Gicae. -

A Rural-Urban market was opened at Fitz-

gerald Saturday, April 27th, and will serve the .

farmers of Ben Hill county. Mr. Battle Sparks

| and Mrs. M. M. Stephens are co-chairmen of the .
- Market committee and Mrs. John Adams is man-

ager of the market, which was organized with the.
co-operation of the State ee of Agricul-
ture.

Mrs. Robin Wood announces the organization

of a Rural-Urban conference in Coffee County on

Saturday, April 20th. Mrs. J. W. Fouche is pres-
ident and Mrs. E. L. Tanner, vice- cepa gues



: Bainbridge Market.

BAINBRIDGE, Ga.AII, arrangernents for the
formal opening of the Farmers Produce market at
this place have been completed. A large brick
warehouse on the A. C. L: Railroad tracks has been
leased, and an experienced truck man will be in
charge.

Under the direction | of the

Bainbridge and_

~ Decatur County Chamber of Commerce, the County

Agent and the State Bureau of Markets, hundreds

of acres of various truck crops have been planted.
_ There is now listed the following acreages:
corn, 500 acres;

Early
tomatoes. 200 acres; okra, 100
acres; beans, lima and snap, 200: acres; peas, black-
eye and crowder, 500 acres; saupsh,: 40 acres and
also many cucumbers.

Truck crops here are making a fine recovery
at present,





_ Atlanta Spot Cotton

Atlanta spot cotton closed steady, middling
10.95. The average price of middling 15-16 inch
cotton today at ten southern spot markets, was

| 10,63 per pound. For middling 7-8 inch staple,
the average price was 10.45 cents per pound.

situation, Mayor W. G. Harry, of Warm Springs,
advised that the Farmers meeting planned the

The third annual Rural-Urban Conference, an=
nounced in the last Market Bulletin as set for "May
24-25, -will be held in the City Auditorium in At-

_ lanta on JUNE 28-29, Friday and Saturda: Mrs.

Mrs. Wood, director of the womens division of
the State Department of Agriculture, states that the
meeting was moved up from May to JUNE at the
request of many farm women who stated that be=
cause of a late spring, they could not be present
that early and suggested a-later date and June 28-
29 was set as the time.

Potato Plant Revdatca.

Georgias new Sweet Potato Plant Regulations

issued by the Georgia Department of Entomology

require that all sweet potato plants sold in Georgia
during the 1940 season be tied with eee cer-

tificate tape,

This tape carries the waits UGiconts Certified
and is
used on plants produced from disease free potatoes.
Potatoes pass three inspections before they are
certified, in the field, in storage, and the Bae in
transit. :
Farmers are cautioned to buy anty plants tied
with the official tape. The Sweet Potato Plant
Regulations require all dealers in sweet potato
plants to registed with the Georgia Te of
Entomology, State Capitol, Atlanta. | e
