and eight members of the Georgia congressional
delegation assured Chairman Schram, Sam H. Hus-
bands and Carroll B. Merriam, directors of the
government lending corporation, that they were
prepared to present data and figures showing con-
clusively that the project would be self-liquidating
and that its sponsors were financially responsible.
To Study Setup
*The corporation, Chairman Schram told the
group, will be pleased to go into the matter and
study its financial set up.
Representative Robews Ramspeck, who intro-
~ duced the group to Mr. Schram, said plenty of en-
couragement was received and that he anticipated
a loan would be made.
The Atlanta. Farmers Market has been sur-
veyed by the Department of Agriculture and high
officials of that department have recommended to
the RFC that a loan be made for its construction.
Wendell Calhoun, representing the Federal
Bureau of Agricultural Economics, said Secretary
Wallace had indorsed the project in a letter to the
RFC. He said Atlanta was becoming the south-
eastern concentration point for farm products.
Dr. Philip Weltner, Atlanta lawyer, said a non-
profit corporation would be formed to obtain loans
from the RFC and private sources. He said the
project would become eligible for additional help
from the WPA.

Expert Supports Georgians
Wendell Calhoun, of the Federal Department, told the R. F.
C. that recent surveys of the Atlanta market fully justified the
picture painted by Commissioner Roberts.
the belief that larger and more substantial facilities are neces-
sary, adding his belief that financial returns would liquidate
the loan being asked for the Atlanta enterprise.
Philip Weltner, who has made an exhaustive legal study
of the proposal, discussed its details with the RFC Board, point-
ing out that the plan evolved qualified it as a development en-
titled to receive financial aid of a self-liquidating nature from
the Reconstruction Finance Corporation.
We are asking for a loan of $500,000 for a private corpora-
tion that will provide a public facility which in the end will
- become the property of the State of Georgia without any loss to
the Federal Government, he said. Commissioner Roberts said
the present site of the market was far too small and in too
- eongested a section for requirements.
