done toward regulating prices of farm products. I
believe it is almost a certain fact, if this plan had
_ not been put into effect and carried out so thorough-
__ly by our farmers, cotton today would be selling for
_ far less than it is selling for today. |
Acreage reduction of all crops can be accom-
plished only by farmers themselves, and if they will
get together next planting season, as solidly on acre-
age reduction, especially cotton and tobacco, as they
_ did on cotton this year, you would soon see the sur-
-plus in these crops absorbed and prices go higher.
Numerous suggestions have been madehow
i best to use the land this cotton was taken from. As
stated in a previous issue of the Market Bulletin, this
land can be used very profitably by planting in cover

Plowing Up Cotton
__ Never, as far back as | can remember, has a
_. proposition been put up to the farmers of Georgia,
__ that I believe met their whole-hearted- cooperation
and enthusiastic approval, as has the plan of reduc-
- ing cotton acreage by plowing up a part of the grow-
ing crop. This, I believe, was one of the best steps
_ forward toward acreage reduction, not only of cot-'
_ ton, but of other crops that our farmers have ever
_ undertaken, as it shows the results of what can be
will pay you well for the expense of planting, be-
sides giving your land the protection it needs during
the winter. Late vegetables can be planted on some
of this land in certain parts of the state that will
yield a necessary food crop and, at the same time,
this crop will get the benefit of the fertilizer that was _
put under the cotton. | : : tee ae

There has been a lot of discussion lately among
truck growers and dealers in farm produce, regard-
ing the hours in which they were allowed to sell their
produce on the Curb Market in Atlanta. For a while a
they were seriously handicapped by these hours and
many of them lost a lot of their produce by spoiling
because the time given them to sell was not suffici-.
ent, but the restrictions have been lifted to some ex-
tent and the situation is now somewhat improved.
The Bureau of Markets is doing everything pos-
sible to assist in bringing about an arrangement |
whereby they can operate so as to be the greatest
benefit to the greatest number, and I believe those
who have charge of such regulations, will recognize
the importance of cooperating with all food distrib-
utors and be as liberal as possible with them, as the
distribution of food at this time is one of our
countrys greatest problems.
