VOL, 1
It is not too late to plant sweet potatoes. Remember they
_ make more hog feed per acre than anything in the world. The
1. ate potato is generally smoother and keeps better than the
: early potato where you wish to bank them through the winter.
Irish potatoes grown in the spring are all right to plant -
-agan in the summer for a fall crop. There are thousands of
dollars spent in Georgia every spring for seed Irish potatoes.
~ Have a few potatoes in the fall to eat and make your own seed |
for the next spring planting. You can do it right here in any
part of Georgia as good as you ean in any part of the world.
4 Soring potatoes should be sprouted before planting for fall:
crops.
Do not forget your collard patch. July and August is the
| time to plant out your seed. You will have greens practically
all of the w-nter and they will help a whole lot with chickens,
hogs, and cows. If you are near a market you can make pretty
good money out of them.
The next two paragraphs are especially for the people who
_ live in the mountains north of Atlanta. e

Crops for Summer Planting
i
Cabbage is grown around in the valleys of north Georgia
as fine as any cabbage from Maine or New York or anywhere.
They are growing them to some extent around Dahlonega and
are bringing them into Atlanta by truck loads, in the fall, In
these rich valleys between the mountains in north Georgia you
should pay more attention to th's erop. Grow them, get them
for carload shipment and they will bring a good priee in other
_ Inarkets after you supply the markets. ef Atlanta.
An excellent crop to plant north of Atlanta from now on
to be ready for the fall markets is tomatoes. I would not ad-
vise it in south Georgia as the sun gets a little too hot in that
section for fall tomatoes. North of Atlanta the fall tomato will
grow well and will bring good prices in the market and will
take the place of thousands of dollars of them that are be.ng
shipped here from other States.
Remember you dan use some of all of the above right at
home, if you have a surplus it will pay you something. We
are not growing enough of these fall vegetables in Georgia.

MARKET SULLETIN
Published weekly by The
BUREAU OF M ETS)
Arthur D. Jones, Director
DEPARTMENT OF
AGRICULTURE
Eugene Talmadge, Commissioner
Thursday, June 28, 1928
Entered as second class matter Febru-
ary 15, 1922, at the Post Office at At-
lanta, Georgia, under the act of June
6, 1900. Accepted for mailing at spe-
cial rate of postage provided for 3 sec-
tion 1108. Act of October 3, 191
ot
Advertisements of farm produce and
appurtenances, admissible under pos-
tal regulations, inserted one time on
each request, and repeated only when |
request is accompanied by new copy
of advertisement.
Limited space will not permit insertion
of unimportant advertisements. Under
legislative act the Market Bulletin does
not assume any responsibility for any
advertisement appearing in the Bulle-
tin or transaction resulting therefrom.
Circulation, Advertising and Service of
the Bureau of Markets and this Bulle-
tin are Free of Charge.
POULTRY--PEST- PUBLICATION
POPULAR,
In no other agricultural subject
has so much interest been manifested
according to requests received dur~
ing the year for bulletins published
by the Department of Agricultre
than in the control of lice and mites
of poultry. Sixteen editions of a bul-
letin on this subject (amounting to
nearly 1,000,000 copies) have been
printed. Although these recommen-
dations have been put into effect
very generally by cemmercial. poul-
tey raisers, with the result that in
intensive poultry raising sections of
parasites on poultry, owners of farm
and town flocks corinue to -lose
much money through injury caused
by these external parasites. Losses
are especially large from head live
on chicks and body lice qn grown
fowls, but the fact that the treatment
is simple and certain makes the loss-
es @mtirely avoidable. Commercial
sodium fluoride, used in the form of a
dust or dip, will completely destroy
all kinds of poultry lice and their
eggs in one treatment. This material
is easy to handle, and if used in ac-
eordance with instructions eapses no
harm in any way to the opepator or
to the fowls. In using the material
as a dip, all that is necessary to in-
sure a fully satisfactory job is to
pick out a warm, sunny day and
treat every fowl.
