MARKET BULLET

PUBLISHED if the BUREAU OF MARKETS -
) ATLANTA, GEORGIA, THURSDAY, APRIL 26, 1928.

NUMBER 24.

It was my good fortune to attend the last monthly meeting
of the Euharlee Farmers Club in Bartow County and I want

_to tell the readers of the Market Bulletin about this Club.

- The Club was organized in 1883, just one year before I was

born, and is said to be the oldest farm club in continuous

existence in America. It holds meetings once a month and the

membership is limited to 15, being composed of 12 farmers
and three other honorary members. The present members are
in most instances either sons or grandsons of the charter
- members.

The Club has held regular meetings every month since it was
organized, I was told, some member entertaining the Club
each time. The meeting I attended was held at the home of Mr.
J. W. Saggus. General farm subjects affecting the members
were discussed, after which a fine dinner was served, made up
mostly of products grown on Mr. Saggus farm.

The members of the Euharlee Club are among the best
farmers in Bartow County, men who are not only just farmers,
but men who farm on a business basis, that is they run their
farms as far as possible just like a storekeeper runs his store
in the way of keeping a strict account of the income and outgo.
The members all have beautiful homes, contented families
fine stock and fat cattle. They live at home and board at the
same place by growing a variety of crops so that none of

A Visit to the Euharlee Farmers Club

them are all-cotton farmers. Their suecess encourages young
people and others to stay on the farm. 3

This Euharlee Club proves what organization among farm-
ers will do. These men meet once a month, discuss problems be-
fore them concerning different crops, which brings about a
general exchange of ideas. Members told me that farmers in
Bartow County had been greatly benefited by the Club as
many farmers who are not members 20 fp this Club for advice
on farm questions. >

The Club gets its name from a militia district in Bartow
County, the first members. being from that district, but in-
stead of being strictly a district club, its members now come
from different sections of the County.

The Euharlee Club is composed of members who are success-
ful farmers, who live on the farm. Every section in Georgia is
a unit within itself and if the farmers in each community or
eounty had a Club like this they could solve many farm ques-
tions by threshing them out at regular meetings and besides
the information gained, the fellowship feature would serve a
good purpose in bringing miety neighbors together ever so
often.

Clubs like this will help keep the young folks on the farm.
Whenever the sons and daughters of real farmers stay on the

farms, Georgia will blossom and bloom like the rose.
EUGENE TALMADGE.

NATIONAL POULTRY COUNCIL

May Ist to 7th, 1928.

The National Poultry Council of
the United States of America issues
proclamation designating the period
from May 1st to 7th, 1928 inclusive
as NATIONAL EGG WEEK.

Eggs are now recognized as one
of the most staple, wholesome and
necessary parts of the human diet.
Dieticians urge us to eat more Eggs.
Just Think! You can eat them raw,
shirred, fried or scrambled, poached,
steamed, scolloped, hard or soft boil-
ed. During the Spring season when
eggs are plentiful and cheap, there
is no more wholesome, more enjoy-
able nor more delicious food than
the world renowned Angel Food Cake
and along with it a number of other
perfections of the pastry art.

EGGS-AMINE THESE:
ANGEL FOOD CAKEThe- most
delicious of delicious desserts. Take
the whites of 12 eggs, add a, pinch
of salt and beat thoroughly, add 3-4

companion of Angel Food Cake,
rich, bright yellow in colormade
from the yolks of eggs left from
making the Angel Food Cake. It car-
ries with it the same _ appetizing
properties and even additional health-
giving properties through the high
vitamin content of egg yolks. A
most delightful food to be enjoyed
with the cup of tea or coffee.

Take 1 1-3 cupfuls sugar and 1-2
cupful butter, cream together. Add
yolks of 12 eggs, well beaten and 2-3
of a cupful of milk, 2 cupfuls flour
and 2 teaspoonfuls of baking powder.
Flavor to suit taste. Bake in a moder-
ate oven. EGGS-tra fine, not EGGS-
travagant.

SUNSHINE CAKEIn Sunshine
Cake we have a delicious appetizing,
vitamin filled, health-giving pastry
which can well be made a regular
part of the family diet.

1 cupful of sugar and the well beaten
yolks. Fold in 38-4 of a cupful of
flour to which has been added 1-4
