NUMBER 22.
: Country ee cooking, lb. wre enerernnnn emcees :
S all preparation for planting and all planting that was already
really knows the great handicap that it is to farming. This is
especially true since the presence of the boll weevil in Georgia.
Some weeks ago I wrote about planting cotton early in
South Georgia and completing the planting of cotton about
two weeks later in north Geer The season we have had has
upset this program.
The best: suggestion now is not to plant as large an. acre-
~ age in cotton as you had contemplated, Put the same amount
able to finish your planting sooner, and you will hurry your
3 asp ean Pe in various other crops.

Bee a OF GEORGIA.
"What About Rain, and What About Planting in Georgia?
From all sections of Georgia: we hae pai of the rain .
- Lhad a letter the other day, frhi some feed mills in the
through February and March. This rain practically stopped
State, stat'ng that yellow corn was at a premium of five cents
per bushel over white corn. It might be a good idea to put
some of this land, you had intended planting in cotton, in some
good variety of yellow corn. You can at least get in the seed
~and ean also determine whether it males more corn to the acre |
than the white corn. ;
One of the greatest damages to land is ploughing it too
wet. No good farmer ever planted his land too wet, according
to his opinion, which varies dust about as much as the differ-
ent opinions that we have spent on it.
In a very wet season you have to plough some, hiost of it
~ will be when the ground is too wet to do much good but when
you do plough it too heavy, the best remedy is to plough it
again as soon-as the ground dries off.
They say a bad beginning makes a good eating We have
_ had about as backward a spring as I ever saw. Heres hoping
we will have % a dry hot summer!
