IMPORTANT NOTICE
Postal regulations prohibit the
publishing of dealers for sale ad-
vertisements in the Bulletin and
- they will not be accepted. Every
effort is made by the staff to ex-
clude such advertisements, but
some are not detected and their}
publication embarrasses the pub-'

_ PLANTING SUGGESTIONS
With splendid cotton, grain and
tobacco crops achieved for the
present season, preparations for
new winter food crops are in or-
der at this time. .
Asparagus is a vegetable that
always brings high prices and may
be planted from November 15th to
March, according to the -State
College of Agriculture.
While canned - asparagus are
sold. extensively, preference is
usually given the fresh and home
grown product by the housewife.
Scientific instructions as. to!
planting asparagus are as follows:
Roots should be planted five to
seven inches deep. Rows three to
_ five feet apart, two to three feet in
the row. One hundred roots
should be planted to two hundred
feet.
The best varieties to plant are:
Palmetto, Collossal, Ulm. Rich,
loose soil is required for success-
ful culture. :
Asparagus matures one
from planting of roots.
Although asparagus matures
slowly an asparagus bed once well
established is easily. kept in eul-
tivation, and asparagus is one
vegetable for which the Georgia
supply seldom equals the demand.
Lettuce and mustard may be
year
planted from November to De-}|
eember 15th. Directions for
planting and scientifically grow-
ing these green yegetables may be
found in October numbers of the
Bulletin. :
Rhubarb may be planted and
-will bring him repeat orders.
Ni Ae

planted in rows three feet apart
or in beds. .Fifty plants to one
aundred feet.. The following va-
vietis are recommended as_ the
best: Victoria, Linnaeus, Mam-
mothohed, : fe
Rhubarb matures from one to
two years from time of planting
and is best adapted to the north-
ern part of the State.
SELLING GEORGIA SYRUP
Farmers who produce syrup 1n
smail quantities, but in excess of
nome demand, frequently have
difficulty finding a satisfactory
market. S
it is unfortunate that the large
buyers and canners of Georgia
syrup are blending their product
to such an extent that the consu-
mer can not always easily buy the
high lass, pure product. -
it Seems here 1s an opportunity
for the small producer. Undoubt-
edly a great quantity of Georgia
sorghum and ribbon cane syrup
can be marketed direct to the con-
sumer at a better price than the
bletider Will pay. 72.5740 >.
_ It would perhaps be wise for the
farmer, to put up syrup for mar-
ket in glass when he is sure that
it is of uniform grade and. supe-
rior quality. The buyer then can
see its color and thickness.
\ Select the right kind of seed,
the proper type of soil, use. the
right kind. of fertilizer and then
with skill in making it up, a
farmer can undoubtedly build a
reputation for his product that
A
satisfied customer. is always a
great advertiser.
The tarmer should see that the
package bearing his label contains
only the very best quality.
