VOL. 10.

Tam writing this Saturday morning, Sept. 10, as we have to
turn over copy to the printer to-day for the Bulletin: to reach
you next week.

I have just phoned the Empire Cotton Oil Co. ad the Sou-
thern Cotton Oi! Co. here in Atlanta, and cotton seed are bring-

ing $38 to $45 per ton in carlots f. 0. b. shipping point within

fifty miles of Atlanta and cotton seed meal is worth $38. In
comparison with the past few years this is a good price for
cotton seed. However, I am writing this article more as a sug-
gestion to the farmers to prepare in advance for securing their
fertilizers for next Season. |

for a ton of cotton seed meal, and in some instances they will

- give more than a ton of meal for a ton of seed.
At all of the Experiment Stations I have visited, cotton seed
meal and nitrate of soda are considered the best sources of ni-
trogen. My personal experience has been that one hundred
pounds of 16 per cent acid, fifty pounds of cotton seed meal and
fifty pounds of German kanit per two hundred pound bag, is
the best and cheapest fertilizer for most crops, except tobacco.
It is best to bed on this mixture ten days or two weeks be-
fore planting time. Mixing the seed directly with this fertili-

The farmer ean easily trade the oil mills a ton of cotton seed

s

@

GETTING READY TO PAY CASH FOR YOUR FERTILIZER NEXT SPRING

-zer sometimes results in a bad stand. This is eliminated by
bedding on the fertilizer ten days or two weeks in advance of

plant_ng and then freshening up the bedding ahead of the
planter with an ordinary scooter and scrape. If this mixture
is used as a side application, I advise using nitrate of soda in-
stead of meal. ~ .

Millions of dollars are thrown away in Georgia every year
by buy-ng mixed fertilizer that contains from twenty-five to
forty-five pounds per-sack of sand, cinders or Graymont rock,
which are absolutely worth!ess as plant food. By using the
above mixture you are not paying freight on any of these
worthless materials and by saving your cotton seed now you
ean effeet a trade and obtain what meal is necessary. You
will then only have to buy\ your acid and kanit.

- The trouble with most of us farmers is, that in the good days
in the fall of the year, we sell everything we have to sell for
cash and spend the money by spring. We then have to go and
buy on eredit and take what s given us at the price of the
other fellow. Go to looking six months in advance, brother
farmer, and arrange your own business. I think you will find
that this, after all, is the only key to success.

DAIRY FARMERS NOTE

We are carrying the Chicago

Since many ereameries buy milk
and eream on this basis, this is
for your convenience in compar-
ing the price paid by them with
this market.

WE REPEAT

We want our Bulletin to be of
best possible service to the Geor-
ria farmer. To do this, it should
go into every Georgia home. It
should be the means whereby the

-eity consumer may get in direct]

touch with the farmer producer.
Preference in advertising will
always be given to items actually
grown on the farm and to those
iaost nearly in general use.

MARKET BULLETIN.

Kugene Talmadge, Commission-
er of Agriculture, is highly
pleased with the co-operation ac-
corded to the Sweet Potato Sale
Campaign.

Mr. Talmadge especially appre-

j ciates the support given this cam-

paign by the daily newspapers
throughout the State, which have
ziven space gratis to tell the peo-
ple of Georgia how they might
-eally aid the farmers of the state
inancially, by buying sweet pota-
toes and. using them regularly as
a table food.

The retail grocers have respon-
led to the eall and everywhere are
ushing the sale of sweet potatoes.

It is-believed by officials of the
sureau of Markets that the gen-
rel interest aroused in the use
f the sweet potato during Sweet
otato Week will not stop when
campaign week is
yver, but will forcefully impress
Louse-wives with the value of the
weet potato as a daily diet and
zreatly increase the sale of sweet
notatoes the year around. a

imseets, and by mechanical or
other means.

Unless Otherwise Specified the
diameter of each sweet potato
shall not be less than 1 3-4 inches
nor more than 3 1-2 inches, and

inches nor more than 10 inches,
but the length may be less\than 3
inches if the diameter is 2 inches

cident to proper grading and han-

cent, shall be allowed for sweet
potatoes affected with soft rot.

per cent, by weight, of the sweet
