sector's growth is attributed to 1,800 new jobs in accom-

modation and food services and 100 jobs added to arts,

entertainment and recreation in February. Employment

in construction increased by 900 over the month, follow-

ing a loss of 700 in January.

The private education and health services sector contracted by 1,600 positions over the month. Professional and business services shed 1,400 jobs in February, after gaining 2,400 nonfarm workers in January. Despite the gain of 3,200 jobs in transportation, warehousing and utilities, losing 2,700 jobs in wholesale trade and 1,300 jobs from retail trade accounts for the employment contraction in trade, transportation, and utilities.

Feb-23 Mar-23 Apr-23 May-23 Jun-23 Jul-23 Aug-23 Sep-23 Oct-23 Nov-23 Dec-23 Jan-24 Feb-24

Over the year, employment in Georgia is up 48,900, or 1.0 percent. Private education and health services (+24,700 jobs), government (+20,500 jobs), leisure and hospitality (+19,300 jobs), manufacturing (+7,200 jobs), and financial activities (+6,300 jobs) added the most jobs from February 2023 to February 2024.
In February 2024, Georgia's unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) remained steady at 3.1 percent over the month. Unemployment in Georgia is well below the national unemployment rate of 3.9 percent. Over the year, Georgia's unemployment rate is down from 3.2 percent in February 2023.
