in this sector. Employment in leisure and hospitality rose
by 1,900 jobs in October, continuing a 6-month growth
streak.
Other services shed 2,300 jobs in October, following a gain of 2,600 in September. The financial services sector contracted by 1,500 jobs over the month, the employment decline is concentrated in finance and insurance with 2,200 fewer positions. Employment in the trade, transportation and utilities sector declined by 1,400 in October. Although wholesale trade increased by 200 jobs, retail trade lost 900 jobs while transportation, warehousing and utilities shed 700 positions.

Over the year, employment in Georgia is up 93,400, or 1.9 percent. Leisure and hospitality (+34,800 jobs), private education and health services (+33,900 jobs), government (+16,700 jobs), other services (+6,300 jobs) and construction (+5,600 jobs) added the most jobs from October 2022 to October 2023.
In October 2023, Georgia's unemployment (seasonally adjusted) rate remained unchanged at 3.4 percent over the month. Georgia's rate remains below the 3.9 percent national average. Over the year, the state's unemployment rate is up from 3.1 percent in October 2022.
