Trade, transportation, and utilities cut 1,200 jobs in September continuing the downtrend in employment for the fourth consecutive month. Transportation, warehousing, and utilities contracted by 1,100 and wholesale trade declined by 600, overshadowing retail trade's gain of 500 positions over the month.

Over the year, employment in Georgia is up 96,100, or 2.0 percent. Leisure and hospitality (+35,700 jobs), private education and health services (+34,400 jobs), government (+21,700 jobs), construction (+10,700 jobs) and other services (+10,500 jobs) added the most jobs from September 2022 to September 2023.
In September 2023, Georgia's unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) increased to 3.4 percent over the month. Over the year, the state's rate is up from 3.1 percent in September a year ago.
