Courthouse Details: The first courthouse was a frame structure built in 1823, followed by two other wooden buildings, both of which burned, one in 1842 and one in 1898. A fourth courthouse was built in 1916; it now houses the DeKalb Historical Society. In 1997, DeKalb County voters approved a homestead option sales tax that included funds for an addition to the current courthouse. In January 2001, the county awarded a $32 million contract for construction of a seven-story addition on the back of the courthouse. - External Identifiers:
