Obituary
Our brother, Arthur Wade Wright, courageously walked into the hospital on the morning of November 11, 2003. This quotation was posted on the bulletin board: "When you come to the end of all the light you know, and are about to step off into the unknown, Faith is knowing one of two things will happen: There will be something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly." Our Father decided to teach Arthur to fly heroically on Saturday, November 22, 2003. The same quotation encountered by chance on the morning of November 11, 2003, was again encountered moments before, if not at the same time of Arthur's demise on Saturday, November 22, 2003.
Arthur was born on April 20, 1942 to the late James Albert and Katie Tyler Wright. He was the third child bom to this union and was preceded in death by his big brother James (Jimmy). Lovingly called "Wade", he was a special caring brother, uncle, "g-daddy", and friend. At an early age, Arthur was baptized at Trinity C.M.E. Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend H.H. Davis.
He was educated in the public schools of Richmond County and was a 1959 graduate of Lucy Craft Laney High School. He matricu lated at South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, South Carolina and later transferred to Paine College, here in Augusta.
Arthur believed that a "real" man worked honestly for a living, paid his bills (on time) and took care of his responsibilities, whatever they were. Arthur's work experience included: Supervisor in shipping at Gelmart Industries, Long Island, New York and technician at Quebecor World, Evans, Georgia from March 14,1983 until his retire ment on August 7, 2002. Arthur received a 10-year service award, a certificate of appreciation for training and recognition for completion of specialized training in his area of expertise.
His commitment to the community included service in the Richmond County PTA, judge for the Miss Laney pageant and he was especially proud of his participation in the Million Man March in Washington, DC in October 1995. In 1990, our brother joined the Antioch Baptist Church under the spiritual leadership of the Reverend Kenneth B. Martin.
Arthur was a great sports enthusiast of NASCAR Racing (#24), fan of the Carolina Panthers and an avid golfer. "Wade" was imbued with the finesse and sophistication of a British gentleman. He loved life's finest and it showed in his love of his nieces and nephews for he was always motivating them to aspire to their fullest potential, his immaculate taste in clothing, and also through his restoration of his 1979 red Cadillac Deville.
Arthur, having had no children of his own, was significantly committed to his sisters' and brothers' children and also to other chil dren whom he loved dearly. He was generous, caring, protective and very proud of their accomplishments.
He leaves to cherish his memory and honor his life, one brother: Mr. Theodore (Ted) T. Wright, Augusta, GA; four sisters: Mrs. Janet W. Mayes, Augusta, GA; Mrs. Veronica W. (Bill) Gist, Greensboro, NC; Mrs. Dianne W. (Gil) Gilyard, Augusta, GA; and Mrs. Peggie W. (John) Borum, Marietta, GA; an uncle: Mr. James Kimbol, Chicago, IL; five aunts: Mrs. Mildred W. Clay, Philadelphia, PA; Mrs. Jewel T. Gross, Great Neck, NY; Mrs. Lela W. (G. Samuel) Stone, Evans, GA; Mrs. Jean W right, St. Albans, NY; and Mrs. Mary Wright, Raleigh, NC; a devoted and loving friend: Ms. Griselda Kahn; god-daughter: Ms. Tamya N. Wright; a special cousin: Ms. Linda E. McClellan; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Thank you God for teaching our brother, Arthur Wade Wright, to fly
