OBITUARY
Samuel J. Willoughby was born in Saltville, Virginia from the union of Adeline McClanahan and John M. Willoughby on May 3> 1876 *
He received his formal education at Morristown Institute, Morristown, Tennessee and Tuskegee Instit ute, Tuskegee, Alabama graduating from the latter institute on May 25, 1905#
He served in the Spanish-American War and served as a Y.M.C.A. Director during World War I.
He was married to Rosa Savage and to this union, two children were born. After the passing of his first wife and upon moving to Augusta, he married Hattie Warters, she preceded him in death in 1961.
Prentiss, Mississippi and Vcrhees Institute, Denmark, S. C, He also worked as a Farm Demonstration Agent in Georgia,
The deceased was a loyal and devoted member of St. Marlf Methodist Church, He served as a Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher and in all the official positions of Layman. He continued to support and maintain his interest in the Church until his passing.
He served as a postal employee from which, he retired because of failing eyesight.
He departed this life on Wednesday, October 4> 1967 at the Veterans Hospital (Forest Hills Division)
He leaves to mourn his passing, a devoted son, John M. Willoughby, a devoted daughter, Mrs. Samuel J. Chiles, a loving grand-daughter, Miss Peggy F, Chiles, grandson,Samuel Willoughby Chiles, daughterin-law Mrs. S. G. Willoughby,son-in-law,F. H. Chiles, niece,Mrs. Arlene 0. Newman and a host of friends.
