THE LIFE OF
Zonnie James Williams
The world lost a beautiful soul on May 8, 2008. Mr. Zonnie James Williams, 62, of 2276 Edgefield Highway, South Carolina was bom on November 23, 1945 to Helen Weaver Williams and the late Jesse James Williams in Edgefield, South Carolina. He was the first bom of 9 children. His younger brother, Dennis, preceded him in death.
As a young boy, Zonnie joined the Bland Baptist Church in Johnston, SC where he served faithfully throughout his life. He was named a church Trustee and later served as a Deacon for many years.
He was a graduate of W. E. Parker High School, Edgefield, South Carolina and Augusta Technical College, Augusta, Georgia. A Vietnam Veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from October 29, 1965 and was honorably discharged on October 28, 1968. During his service he received a National of Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.
Upon his return home from a tour of duty in Vietnam, Mr. Williams was hired by the Kimberly Clark Corporation in Beach Island, South Carolina in December, 1968. He was later named as a Head Operator - Supervisor in the Shipping Department at the time of his retirement in April of 2002. Mr. Williams was united in holy matrimony to Daisy Robinson at the Shaws Creek Baptist Church on October 4, 1970. From this union one son and two daughters were bom: Marcus, Miesai, and Tameka. Mr. Williams' love for his children, grandsons, and granddaughter was like Paul's love for the church. He was a dedicated father and grandfather who enjoyed just spending quality time and provided unyielding support for his children and grandsons in school, church, and community functions. He also enjoyed gardening and generously providing fresh harvested vegetables to family and friends. Fishing and photography were life-long passions. Some of Mr. Williams' community involvement over the years included membership in the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge in Aiken and other community organizations including the Farmer's Association, the American Veteran Association, the Elks Lodge, the Zodiac Motorcycle Club, the Sagittarius Club, and Club 66. At the time of his death, he was the current Commander of the American Legion Post 222 in Johnston, SC.
Mr. Williams leaves his cherished memories to many people who loved him. He is survived by his mother, Helen Williams of North Augusta, SC, three children: Miesai Williams of Atlanta, GA; Marcus (Tamika) Williams of Douglasville, GA; Tameka (Moken) Karanja, Columbia, SC; four grandchildren Gregory, Quintell, Micheal, & Elon Williams; six sisters: Diane (Calvin) Warren, North Augusta, SC; Helen Evonne Fowler, Villa Rica, GA; Gloria Allen, Aiken, SC; Sylvia Minnick, Austell, GA; Deborah Heller, North Augusta, SC; and Pamela Williams, Alameda, CA; his mother-in-law, Daisy Robinson, Aiken, SC; four sisters-in-law: Lola (J.D.) Butler, Johnston, SC; Grace (Eddie) Garvin, Jamaica, NY; Perlie Robinson, Aiken, SC; and Mary Jackson, Aiken, SC; two brother-in-laws: Cleo (Mary Lee) Robinson, Pervis Robinson, Aiken, SC, and a number of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and friends.

Thoughts to My Grandsons & Granddaughter...
"We can't really know the depth o f our character until we see how we react under pressure. Rough times can teach us patience. We are not required to pretend to be happy when wefeel pain, but to have a positive outlook towards the results that trials in life may bring. We should ask Godfor the wisdom to turn our hardships into opportunitiesfor learning, for it is through the rough times that we encounter that we learn patience as a virtue.
It is easy to be kind when everything is going well, but can we still be kind when others are treating us unfairly? God desires to make us mature and complete, not to keep us from all pain. Instead o f complaining about our struggles, we should see them as opportunitiesfor growth. Thank Godfor promising to be with you through rough times. Ask him to help you solve your problems or give you the strength to endure them. Then be patient. God will not leave you alone with problems; he will stay close by and help you grow in the word. Just trust in Him. "*
Love, Grand Daddy *(Notes written by Zonnie in April o f2008 to his grandchildren.)
Romans 5:3-5(KJV) 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh
patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by
the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
