OBITUARY
Mr. John Alien Williams was born in Macon, Georgia on April 8, 1895 to the late Mr. Lewis H. Williams and Mrs. Alice E. Williams. He attended the Bibb County Public Schools and the Ballard Normal School of Bibb County and the Haines Institute in Augusta, Georgia. He did his college work at the Fisk University in Nash ville, Tennessee. He lived in Chicago, Illinois for several years where he met and married the former Miss Rubye Mossey. While in Chicago, Mr. Williams was employed by the United States Postal Service.
Mr. Williams returned to Macon in 1924 and served as teacher and Principal at the Georgia Academy for the Blind until 1942. Since then he has been a probation officer for the Bibb County Juvenile Court. Mr. Williams was a member of the Ste.jart Chapel AME Church where he has served as organist since 1929, a veteran of World War I, a member of the American Legion Post 501 and a Charter member of the Homosophia Civic Club.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rubye H. Williams, a daughter, Mrs. Juanita Minefield, a sis ter, Mrs. Martha W. Sheftall of Macon; two brothers, Sidney D. and Maceo A. Williams both of New York City; two grand daughters, Mrs. Rose Marie Mitcham and Miss Shirley King; a great grand son, Marvin Mitcham, III all of New York City; a son-in-law, Mr. Grady Minefield of New York City; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mary B. Williams, Mrs. Dorothy Williams of New York and Mrs. Susie Williams of Macon. One brother-in-law, Mr. Jackson B. Sheftall, Sr., of Macon; a grand-son-in-law, Mr. Marvin Mitcham, II of New York; a nephew, Mr. Jackson B. Sheftall, Jr. of Macon; five nieces, Mrs. Carolyn Holmes, and Mrs. Josephine Kirton of New York, Mrs. Alice Pearl Home of Dublin, Georgia; Mrs. Shelia Barnes and Carole Sheftall, of Macon, Georgia and other relatives and friends.
