During Wednesday morning, April 4, 2012, MRS. CARRIE B. REID WILKES saw a light of glory and began her journey home. The beautiful life began June 22, 1916, the youngest o f eight children of the late Robert and Gertrude Dent Reid. She was preceded in death by all her siblings, four brothers: Bishop Sr., Freeman, George, and Timothy, and three sisters, Mamie, Mollie and Lula.
Carrie attended the public schools in Columbia County, Appling, Georgia. At an early age, Carrie answered the call of Jesus and began a life o f Christian service at Second Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Appling, Georgia; after moving to Augusta, Georgia, she transferred her membership to Macedonia Baptist Church where she served as a faithful and loyal member. She served on the Deaconess Board, attended Sunday School, and shared her cooking skills with the ministry. She was honored in 2006 for 50 plus years of service to Macedonia Baptist Church; she also received a Certification in 2010 for the Phenomenal Women Showcase a "The Woman of Virtue".
She was a member of the Augusta/North Augusta Travel Social Club; she enjoyed traveling; a faithful member of the Dent's Family Reunion Committee, where she was one of the advisors and historian. She received many plaques from the Dent's Family Reunion.
Carrie married the late Millard Miller, Sr. and to that union a son was born, Millard Miller, Jr., who preceded her in death. She later married Pierce Wilkes who preceded her in death, 1985.
Carrie Wilkes, "Aunt Honey" as she was affectionately called, touched the lives of many people with her love, compassion and giving heart. She was well known for her cooking skills, especially her famous "Lemon Glazed Loaf Pound Cake" and the "Sweet Potatoes" recipes.
She leaves to walk in the bright pathway o f God's enduring love: a caregiver and devoted niece, Jeanette (Augustus) Thurmond; her name sake, Carrie (Willie) Curtis; other nieces, Catherine Garnett, Gertrude Gordon, Elizabeth Bennett and Betty Mack; six nephews, Ralph Mack, Freeman (Pansy) Reid, Jr., Bishop (Mary) Reid, Jr.; Robert, James, and Raymond Wilkes; two goddaughters, Lisa Johnson Norman and Pamela C. (Melvin) Brown; family members she called "daughters," Ginny P. (Dr. Louie) Griffin, Debbie and Richard, Susan P. (Richard) Danner and Mary P. (Robin); great nieces and nephews; loving and caring Macedonia Church Family; and a host o f cousins, relatives and friends.
" B lessed a r e t h e d e a d w h ic h d ie in t h e L o r d ... YEA, SAITH THE SPIRIT, THAT THEY MAY REST FROM THEIR LABOURS;
AND THEIR WORKS DO FOLLOW THEM".

<Don't
Don't spend too much time in the morning; tears are for the sad.
I left to be with Jesus, and this should make you glad. Don't waste your hours in grieving. No need to feel distress. I'm tired o f life's frustrations and had to get some rest. Don't vex yourself with questions or try to reason why.
Life here for me was ended; it came my time to die. Don't lose the love I gave you; feed it with our care,
Grow it with devotion and spread it everywhere. Don't fret because my leaving came in such a way
We'll have another meeting; In God's Eternal Day!
