God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He p u t His arm around you and whispered\ "Come to M e". With tearful eyes we watchedyou, and saw you pass away, and although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove that He only takes the bestl Amen. - Submitted By: Makayla Wells, Granddaughter

On Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 3:50 p.m., the Lord called home one of His good and faithful servants, Mrs. Norma Jean Wells. Better known as the "Ma Dukes" or "Cupcake Lady," she was a woman who so many loved and highly favored.
Mrs. Norma Jean Wells was born on May 18, 1953 to the late Alice Francis Johnson and Dr. J. C. Thomas. She was a native of Augusta, Georgia, and was raised in both Columbia and Richmond Counties. Norma received her education in the public schools of Augusta, Georgia.
As a young girl, Norma overcame every obstacle. Her love for the church and music allowed her to travel with Jackie Wilson and the Chi-Lites as a backup singer.
In her mid years, her passion for baking and feeding the elderly and homeless, developed into an opportunity for entrepreneurship to the city of Augusta and surrounding areas, including out of state. Then she became affectionately known as "The Cake Lady."
Norma leaves to carry on her legacy: four loving daughters, Tiease Wells, Palechia Johnson of Augusta, Georgia, Mary and Suenetta Wells of Belvedere, South Carolina; eight loving grandchildren, D 'Reginald Jones, Michael Johnson, Prince Johnson, Laurin Wells and Heavenly Turner of Augusta, Georgia, Makayla Wells, Franisha Brown and Joshua Daggett, Jr. of Belvedere, South Carolina; loving sister, Louise (the late Leotis) Scott of Matthews, Georgia; two loving brothers, Thomas Johnson and Michael Beauford of Augusta, Georgia; two aunts, Clara Turna of Augusta, Georgia and Healen (the late George) Johnson of Appling, Georgia; two close cousins, Margret Chishom of Augusta, Georgia and Emma Johnson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; godmother, Mary Garnett; two god sisters, Evangelist Jackie Leverett of Stafford, Florida and Rhonda Mays of Atlanta, Georgia; close devoted friends, Linda Thompkins, Ophelia Johnson, Shirley Lockhart of Augusta, Georgia, Lieslie Stevenson of Alabama and Robert Nealous (the father of her children) of Edgefield, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.
