Mr. Raymond Way was born in Jefferson County, Georgia and lived in Augusta for sixty years. He was the son of the late Mrs. Georgia Way Jones and Mr. Bite Jones. He was retired from Civil Service at Fort Gordon after a thirty year career as a mechanic. He was also retired from a career as proprieter and agent for Ways Music Enterprises.
Mr. Way was founder and first commander of American Legion Post #235 and past Junior Vice Commander of District Eleven American Legion and was also a former member of American Legion Post #505.
He was a life member of the following Masonic Prince Hall Affiliations; New Era Lodge #107, Lebanon Consistory #28, and Stoklin Temple #22.
Mr. Way was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and served as parliamentarian and food chairperson for the Calvarys Progressive Adults Ministry.
He departed this life Thursday, April 12, 1990.
Cherishing fond memories are: a devoted wife, Mary, to whom he was happily married for forty-nine (49) years; two daughters, Rosalyn Way Panton and Veronica Way; three grandchildren, Thelma Monique Panton, Simone Michelle Sweeper and Lance Christopher Panton; a son-in-law, Gordon J. Panton; a sister Susie Mae Hooper; an adopted brother, Cecil Prince; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Prince; a godchild, Johnselle Lemon; two uncles, Lee Tarver and Nathaniel C. Tarver and a host of other close relatives and friends.
Raymond was known for being a gentle, compassionate and generous person and he was especially involved with and concerned about children. He had a heart of gold and would lend a helping hand to friend or stranger in need. May Gods perpetual light shine upon him and may he rest in peace in his eternal home with God.
