Obituary
ULYSSES WATKINS, 73, of Augusta, Georgia died Tuesday, August 2, 2011.
`Uly", as he was affectionately known, was born on May 27, 1938, in Augusta, Georgia where he remained a lifelong resident.
He received his formal education in the public schools of Richmond County, and served his country on a tour of duty in the United States Air Force. He worked for 35 years at International Paper, also known as Continental Can, and Federal Paper Board where he retired in 1999.
In March 1965, he united in Holy matrimony to Marlene Turner, and to this union four beautiful daughters were born. Uly was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Gussie Watkins; and two brothers, Forest Watkins and Willie Watkins.
He leaves to celebrate his legacy: his devoted wife, Marlene Watkins, Augusta, GA; four loving daughters, Mia (Marvin) Griffin of Swansea, Illinois, Michelle (Aaron) Williams of Seattle, Washington, Monica Watkins of Atlanta, Georgia and Marcia (Ezra) Gipson of Brentwood, Tennessee; two sisters, Marguerite Walker and Jackie Watkins of Augusta, GA; five grandchildren, Trinity Griffin, Micaela Griffin, Joshua Griffin, Elijah Griffin, all of Swansea, Illinois and Ethan Gipson of Brentwood, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Uly also leaves to cherish his memory, a host of beloved friends.
