George Steven Washington was born on December 19, 1951 in Augusta, Georgia to the late Rena and Johnny Washington.
He was called home by our Heavenly Father on March 24, 2013 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.
At an early age George was baptized at Thankful Baptist Church by the late Reverend N.T. Young,Sr. He later became a member o f the Broadway Baptist Church Family.
George was a graduate of Lucy C. Laney Class o f 1969 and Augusta College 1980.
George served in both the United States Air Force (1st LT) and Army (Sergeant). George was called into active duty in November 1990, serving sixteen months in Saudi Arabia as a part o f Operation Desert Storm.
George's love for serving the youth in the community, was evident during his career as a case manager with the Department o f Family and Children Services in 1983.
In 1986, George decided to become a Juvenile Probation Officer with the DJJ until retiring March of 2010.
George was instrumental in starting the DJJ Basketball Camp. Upon his retiring, the camp was renamed in his honor. The George S. Washington Basketball Invitational Camp is held yearly at May Park.
In 1972, George was united in marriage with Marie Ann Jackson. This union o f forty-years produced two sons, Omani and Omari Washington.
Survivors include: his wife, Marie A. Washington; two sons, Omani Y. Washington and Omari T. Washington; granddaughter, Samayah Washington; two brothers-in-law, Mr. Joseph Lattimore and Wade (Gloria) Jackson, Jr.; five nieces, Deborah (Edward) Gardner, Angela Anthony, Pamela (Michael) Williams, Tiara McCullough and Tdkisha Lattimore; four nephews, Joseph D. Lattimore, Tremell Jackson, Najhee Jackson and Jermaine Jackson; devoted life-long friends and traveling companions, Walter and Queen Dobbs, whom he traveled all around the world with; and a host o f nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Wise with beautiful eyes. His voice powerful when Our Uncle
spoke oh you listened. His spirit was positive. Our Uncle would make everything right no matter how wrong it was. Oh Lord, Our Uncle we will miss his strong hugs, his shoulder squeezes,
his comical sayings. Lord we have enjoyed Our Uncle, hut now in your Name, Saviour we know you know
best for Our Uncle, George.
