Born May 19, 1914,-<EfijaR (W a s h in g to n , c jr., was (he seventh child of twelve children of the late Rev. and Mrs. Elijah (Carrie Bell Dowling) Washington, Sr. Rev. Washington was born in Bamburg, South Carolina, but later made his home in Augusta, Georgia.
Rev. Washington accepted Christ at a very young age, as his life began to prosper from (hat moment on. He accepted G od's calling to preach the gospel at the age of 30 and shortly afterward he began pastoring. Rev. Washington has pastored several churches in and around the Central Savannah River Area to include: Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Augusta, GA: Mount Transfiguration Baptist Church, SC; Beach Branch Baptist Church. Sardis, GA; Springhill Baptist Church, Hephzibah, GA; Crawford Baptist Church, Augusta, GA; and Spring Grove Baptist Churh. Edgefield County, SC.
Although Rev. Washington's preaching carried him to various cities throughout the state and to other states, he always remained a faithful and dedicated member of Liberty Baptist C hurch, as well as the Baptist Ministers' Conference.
Although Rev. W ashington's life, on this earth, has ended:
~ His wife, Mrs. Ada Washington, will always carry the "T orch" which will be reminiscent of his teachings.
~ His children, David (Pat) Washington, Thomas Williams, Jessie Motley, and Renee Tillman, will always share in his guidance.
~ His grandchildren. David Washington, Jr. Kimberly Washington, Nicole Washington, Tharyel Smith, Betina Hopper, LaRon W illiams, Jackie Williams and Regina Goffrey, will forever hold to his firm beliefs of love for all mankind.
~~ His sisters and brothers, Myrtis Williams, Vercita Moore, Rev. Chester (Lillie) Washington, Rev. Joseph (Eunice) Washington and Willis E. Washington, will never forget the closeness as a loving family.
~ His devoted niece, Lassie Chatman, along with his sisters-in-law and otherfamily members, will uphold the legacy he has left behind.
But we all will rejoice, for he has finally reached the "Promised Land".
A "Stranger " to some, He was not.
A "Mentor'[for most, He was.
A "Kind Word'for All, He shared.
And a man of (Jod Was declared.
