A time to love:
Lester met and fell in love with his wife of 68 years, Vemeller Roberta Turner, and was married in 1941. This union was blessed with four children; thus, becoming "Daddy" to Lester Eugene Jr., Linda Dale, Earl Dean, and Nancy Genell.
His children were his joy. He was loving and patient. He strove to make a good living for them and to rear them in the fear and abomination of the Lord. He was ever mindful o f the gracious care and concern his wife felt for him and showed his regard and appreciation to her.
To his grandchildren he was known "Papa." Papa loved and was proud of all o f them: Erica, Mark, Sonya, Leslie, Keisha, Katria, James, Deany, Kris, Alicia, Tremell, Stephen, Monica, Tawanna, Eulonda and Henry. He was deeply saddened when Leslie and Erica were called to be with the Lord very early in life. He also experienced the joy of becoming a great -grandfather to Tory, Leslie, Camillia, Morgan, Travell, Tyrik, Nikki, Maleik, Jasiah, Marky, Marica, Jaila, Megan, Trey, Risrael, Brandon, and Taylor...his fifth generation great-great- grandson is Theo, Jr.
A time to die:
When my day is done, I would like the memory o fme to be a happy one. I would like to
leave an after glow o fsmiles when my day is done. I would like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, o fhappy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I would like the tears o fthose who grieve to dry before the sun, o fhappy memories I leave behind...when my day is done.
On Wednesday, July 23,2008, God dispatched an angel to summon Lester. God gave the angel specific instruction to make it quick, so in the twinkling of an eye he (Lester, Daddy, Papa, Granddaddy, Uncle Lester and Deacon Tubman) went home to be with the Lord, leaving those who loved him with cherish memories.
Loving and lasting memories will be cherished by his beloved wife o f 68 years, Vemeller; his children, Lester E. (Laura) Tubman, Jr., Linda T. (Henry) Palmer, Earl D. (Dorothy) Tubman, Sr., and Prophetess Nancy T (Bishop Gary) Reese; grandchildren, Marcus E. (Nancy) Tubman, Sr., Sonya A. (Kier) Jackson, LeKeisha (Tracy) Hawes, Katria Trumpler, James Harris, Earl D. Tubman, Jr., Brandon K. Tubman, Alicia Tubman, Gary T. Reese, Jr., Stephen Tubman, Monica (Richard) Curtis, Tawanna (Grant) Henderson; Eulonda S. Palmer and Henry (Linda R.) Palmer; sisters-in-law, Stella Sapp, Carrie Turner and Connie Turner; brother-in-law, Ellis Turner; a special friend, Alexis S. Tubman, 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
To God be the gloryfo r the life o f ourfather.

A Special Tribute to Papa
It was a little over 35 years ago when I was introduced to the man who would later become my father-in-law and who was lovingly referred to as "Papa." During the 35+ years that I knew him, he was the epitome of goodness and kindness. Not only did I observe that he was a good provider, he was also caring, humble, patient and above all a Godly man. To my amazement, I never once witnessed seeing him upset, never witnessed him curse, never saw him intoxicated or even raise his voice in an offensive manner. He treated his wife, Mama Nell, with utmost respect and honor. I observed him to be extremely patient and always there for his entire family as well as others. There are boxwoods, plum and pear trees as well as other trees and plants that are standing tall and thriving because Papa took time to plant them and then make sure that they took root. He took time to support the young people and drove miles and miles to attend graduation activities for countless young people. He always wanted to know how the grandchildren were doing...he wanted to make sure they were leading positive and productive lives; he wanted to be sure that they were making a difference. I celebrate the life and legacy of "Papa0...G od blessed Mama Nell with a wonderful spouse and, Lester Jr., Linda, Dean and Nancy were all blessed with a wonderful Dad! The grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren were also blessed to have had "Papa" in their lives. The world would be a much better place if there were more Papas like our "Papa." I shall miss his presence, his visits to Atlanta, the many times that he stood in his driveway to make sure no cars were coming as w e backed out, and all the wisdom he imparted over the years. Most of all, I shall truly miss the gentle and giant spirit of a godly man! Thank you LORD JESUS for our beloved "Papa," for I know that we shall see him again! '--Dorothy Tubman
