Obituary
Darwin Sweat Sr. was bom in Beaumont, Texas on June 13, 1929. His parents, Neil B. Sweat and Frances Perkins Sweat preceded him in death. He attended schools in the Beaumont Public School system and graduated from the Charlton Pollard Junior High School. He later went on to obtain his GED while living in Detroit.
Darwin was a very active man in the community and in the workforce. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1946 to 1949. He met his wife Sarah Roney while being stationed in Augusta Georgia. They married on July 5, 1949 and moved to Detroit where they started a family. To this union, 8 children were bom.
He worked as a Foreman at Ford Motor Company. Later in life, he worked as a bus driver helping the senior citizens at the Adult WellBeing Senior Citizen Center.
He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined the New Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and was baptized. In 1964, he moved his membership to the New Light Baptist Church and remained a member until he and his wife relocated back to Augusta, Georgia in 1990. There, he joined the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Ministry until his health failed. Darwin was a valiant man who kept his hobbies and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He will surely be missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 56 years: Sarah Sweat; 5 Children: Neil Sweat, Glenda Kohlbatz, and Brenda Brundidge, all of Detroit, MI; Julia Sweat of Los Angeles, CA; Quintin Sweat (Krystal) of Southfield, MI; daughter-in-law: Estashia Sweat of Detroit, MI; 3 sisters-in-law: Mrs. Julia Tanksley and Mrs. Mary White, both of Augusta, GA, and Minister Freddine McCormick of Bloomfield, NJ; 1 brother-in-law: Claude Roney of Atlanta, GA; 12 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by 3 children: Darwin Sweat Jr.; and Valinda Leah and David Lee who died in infancy.
