Corine Moss Strother was bom January 24, 1928, in Columbia, South Carolina to the
late Reverend and Mrs. E. A. Moss. She was a graduate of A.R. Johnson High School and Luvena School of Beauty, and attended Paine College in Augusta, Georgia.
Raised in the church, Corine accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Sing ing gospel since age 3, she ministered to many in need through her gift of song. She was a choir member of the E. A. Moss Choir at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Augusta, GA, Woods Memo rial A.M.E. Zion Church in Bronx, NY and St. Catherine A.M.E. Zion's Methodist Church in New Rochelle, NY.
Corine married her high school sweetheart, Lt. Col. Joseph A. Strother, on August 16, 1949 in Savannah, Georgia. Six children were bom through their union. She was very devoted to her family and often referred to the raising of her children as "a labor of love". Corine loved to give, she provided hats and gloves to children who did not have them in the cold. She also owned a home-based day care business in New Rochelle, NY, where she parented, mentored and taught children how to read.
Quick to smile and laugh, Corine was a lady with a sense of humor. Affectionately nicknamed "Ms. Hospitality" by many of her friends and relatives, she was passionate about making you feel at home. She opened her home and heart to many through her special projects; the annual New Years Eve party, the Fourth of July barbecue, and the proud tour of her home which always ended at her family picture wall. But of all her many deeds and tasks, her greatest work was her family, whom she gave her all.
Corine requested in a letter that when she was laid to rest, to leave you with this comforting quote, "I've gone to sing in God's heavenly choir. I've done my very best and I believe that is all the Lord has required of me."
On March 24, 1999, Mrs. Corine M. Strother of 5680 Mountain View Pass, Stone Mountain, GA, entered into rest at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta, GA. She was the beloved wife of Lt. Col. Joseph A. Strother, Sr., and the beloved mother of sons Joseph A. Strother, Jr., John U. Strother, Stephen A. Strother, Michael A. Strother and daughter, Cathleen E. Monroe. She is also survived by her devoted brother, Eugene Moss; two brother-in-laws, Charles Bussey and John Bussey; two daughter-in-laws, Olga Strother and Tracey Strother; ten grandchildren, Marco Cutchlow, Tonya Strother, Ritaka Strother, Christina Monroe, Rashad Strother, Zahara Strother, Michael Strother, Jr., Jewell Strother, Kristin Strother, and Maya Strother; two great-grands, Marcus Cutchlow and Xavier; nieces, nephews and a god son, Kevin Jackson; as well as other relatives and friends.

I Am Free
D o n 't grieve fo r me, fo r now I 'm free. I am follow ing the path that God laidfo r me.
I took his hand when I heard him call. I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to w ork or play. Tasks left undone m ust stay that way. I fo u n d peace at the close o f the day.
I f my parting has left a void. Then fill it with rem em beredjoy. A frien d sh ip shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, these things I too w ill miss.
Be not burden with time or sorrow. I wish fo r you the sunshine fo r tomorrow.
M y life 's been fu ll I savored much. G oodfriends, good times, a loved one touched.
Perhaps m y time seem all too brief. D o n 't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me.
God w anted me now, he set mefree.
To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.

The family o f Corine M oss Strother extends thanks to each o f you for all expressions o f kindness, concern and hospitality. The love that everyone has shown for Corine w ill always be remembered deep in our hearts.
