Very quietly and peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom reached down, closed the eyes of our beloved Eva McLarin- Stephens, and she entered into her eternal rest.
Mattie Eva McLann-StephenS (named after her mothers great grandmother), W3S
born August 20, 1909 in Atlanta, Georgia (Fuiton couotyj^She was the fifth child of ten children, born to Henry Abraham^cLarjri)and Daisy Nancy Willingham-McLarin. Her formal education occurred in the Atlanta Public School System and Atlanta School of Cosmetology. Eva accepted Christ at an early age and attended her familys church, Cobb Bethel AME of Ben Hill Georgia (2090 county Line Road, s. w. (404)344-506). Her grandmother and grandfather, Dave & Espy McLarin were two of the founders of this church which grew out of a series of prayer services being held from house to house around 1863. Eva enjoyed worshiping at her home church when she was in town; her last visit to Cobb Bethel AME Church, was August 26, 2007. After moving to Philadelphia, PA she joined White Rock Baptist Church, in Philadelphia, PA (5240 chestnut street 19139-3488 (215)474-1738), under the pastorage of Rev. William Shaw, where she used her vibrant first soprano voice in the choir. Moving to Belvedere, South Carolina in 1975, she joined the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia where she served on the Senior Choir, Red Rose Auxiliary, Gideon Army and Combined Choir.
Eva was a self-employed beautician and owned her own beauty salon, for many years before retiring and moving to Belvedere, SC. Eva had many creative talents and hobbies. Her favorite were gardening, sewing, traveling and cooking. One of her trips was to Hawaii where she made a return trip. She was a very special person to many people. She was generous and often anonymous with her generosity. Everyone was important to her and hard work suited her. Eva was very supportive financially, and spiritually of young people. She work selflessly to help them succeed in their life goals. She was an active member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Unit#44.

Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Stephens, son, PhillipiEugene McLarin, and granddaughter, Felicia McLarin; brothers and sisters, George Henry (named after father), Addie Lou, Allie Lizzie Anne (named after fathers two sisters), Willie Mae, Robert Lee (named after fathers brother name "Lee"), Bertha Sarah Alice (named after mothers siter named "Alice"), Mallie Lucille, Thomas Hubert (named after fathers brother), John Raleigh (named after uncle).
She will truly be missed and always loved and remembered by: Survivors include sister-in-laws, Alberta McLarin, Lithonia, GA; and Luderrell Stephens, Phil., PA.; devoted nieces and nephews: Nieces- Geneva Goodson, Atl., GA; Carolyn C. Askew-Swain, Atl., GA; Betty AskewAlexander, St. Louis, MO; Barbara McLarin-Ward, Ada McLarin-Sadler (Major), Atl., GA; Patricia Stephens, Phil., PA.; Nephews- George G. Askew, Norman L. Askew, John W. Askew, Thomas McLarin, Robert McLarin (Harriett), Marvin McLarin (Karen) and Willie James McLarin Atl., GA; Mathew Stephens, Jr. Phil., PA.; Godson, Derrick Thompson, Fayetteville, NC and a host of other relatives and friends.
