LAURA STANLEY-STOKES was born to the late Clarence W illiam Stanley and Laura Ella Maben Stanley on July 19,1935 in Augusta, Georgia. She later moved to Tacoma, W ashington where she attended school and lived her life there as a teenager. Her educational experience including C.T. W alker, Lucy C. Laney, and Paine College where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Education, May 1985.
She w orked at Pilgrim Health and Life Insurance Company, Paine College and the Richmond County Board of Education.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was a devoted God-fearing wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandm other and great grandmother. She served as first among ladies of Second Shiloh Baptist Church for forty years.
Laura Stanley and J.L. Stokes united in holy matrimony on April 25,1964.
She was preceded in death by: her m other and father; tw o brothers, Clarence Wesley Stanley and Lawrence Stanley of Augusta, Georgia; and a sister, Lorraine Dejerrinette of Detroit, Michigan.
Laura leaves to cherish her memory: a loving and devoted husband for fifty-two years, Reverend J.L. Stokes; three children, Donald Murray (Veleria), Arita Stokes-Crawford (Michael) and Reverend Tyrone Stokes (Yvette); sister, Carolyn Smith; brother, Eric C. Stanley, both of Augusta, Georgia; three brothers-in-law, Max Stokes (Reba) of Augusta, Georgia, George Stokes of Macon, Georgia and Norris Stokes (Maisie) of Cleveland, Ohio; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
