A rose has been plucked from the flower garden of this

earth to eternal life. On Saturday, December 9, 2006, JoAnn

Hodges Smith moved into her heavenly home after an extended

illness.

JoAnn was born on the 24th day of August in 1959 to the

late Carlene Hodges and Willie Surrency. She was joined in holy

matrimony to Donald Smith on June 18, 1977. To this union three

children were bora. JoAnn was a loving and devoted wife, mother

and Christian, as a member of Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist

Church. She served with the Mt. Gilead Mass Choir, the Missionary

department, the Deaconesses, and the Willing Worker committee.

She was also a member of the Summertown Pleasantview

Women's Club and the WMBS Mission Society at Mt. Zion AME

Church.

Here on this earth JoAnn leaves many loved ones to cherish her memories. Her husband of 29 years, Donald Smith Sr., three children, Donald Smith Jr., Latosha Y'vonne Smith and Evelyn LaWanda Smith; one granddaughter, Jowanna Erion Donesha Smith. Her father, Willie Surrency; nine brothers and seven sisters; fourteen in-laws; Susie Cobb and Lynn Thomas whom she treated as sisters. Four godchildren; Luther Tyrone Hodges, Annette Cobb, Tiffany Hodges and Shayanee Cobb. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
