Obituary
" Not by the Years We Live But How Much We Qive"
From one day to another God will gladly give, to everyone who seeks Him and tries each day to live, A little bit closer to God and to each other, seeing everyone who passes as a neighbor, friend, or brother, not only joy and happiness but the faith to meet each trial, not with fear and trepidation, but with an "inner smile" . . . For we know life's never measured by how many years we live, but by the kindly things we do and the happiness we give.
Mr. Otis Paul Smiley, the loving son of Ms. Ora Bell Jennings and the late Mr. Paul Smiley, was born on April 2, 1949, in the Meadowbrook Hospital, East Meadow, New York. He departed this life at his residence, 699 Rainbow Falls Road, after an extended illness on Friday, April 9, 2004.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined the South Hempstead Baptist Church in Hempstead, New York, where he was a faithful member. He attended Hempstead High School in Hempstead, New York and graduated from Graniteville High School in Graniteville, South Carolina. After moving to Graniteville, South Carolina, he joined Bland Baptist Church in Johnston, South Carolina.
Early in life he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Olivia Sneed. To this union three (3) beautiful children were born.
Mr. Smiley was a gentleman who worked very hard to take care of his family. Otis worked for J.F.K. Airport for a number of years. After moving to Graniteville, South Carolina, he became an employee at Gloverville Pallet Service in Gloverville, South Carolina. He was a very hard worker in all of his duties. After becoming ill, he had to retire from his job on disability. He fought his illness until the end. Another child of God gone home.
He is survived by: his wife, Mrs. Olivia Sneed Smiley of NY; two sons, Keno Smiley, Graniteville, SC and Damien (Angel) Smiley, W oodbridge, VA; one devoted daughter, Ms. Kisha M. Smiley, Graniteville, SC; a loving mother, Mrs. Ora B. Jennings, Graniteville, SC; three uncles, Willie (Eunie) Jennings, Hephzibah, GA, Jerold (Alma) Jennings and Albert (Jean) Jennings, both of Graniteville, SC: two aunts, Ms. Mary Jennings, Graniteville, SC and Mrs. Viola (Paul) Williams, North Augusta, SC; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and car ing friends.
"For 1 am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness . . . "
