OBITUARY
Again, death has invaded the rank of St. Mark Baptist Church and carried away a very dutiful member.
"Life is but a working day, A time to work, a time to pray; And then comes death, This comes to all."
On occasions like this, one is often called upon to render active service when the feeling would imply silence rather than words. In this spirit we approach this duty at this time. The call of death is an event that is forever occuring around us within the range of our families, acquaintances and church members.
Deacon Doctor Sims, Sr., son of the late Doctor and Mrs. Betty Campbell Sims died at his home Sunday, December 8, 1968 at 1:05 A. M. At a very early age he joined the St. Mark Baptist Church where he worked very faithfully in the Sunday School for many years. Because of faithfulness and interest in the church, he was selected as one of its trustees. During his trusteeship^ he served as church secretary for over 10 years. In 1945, he was ordained as a deacon of St. Mark and he retained this position until his death. In addition to loyally serving in the general church program, he was very active in No. 1 Missionary Society.
We all agree that the St. Mark family has lost a most pleasant, cooperative, dependable, loving and faithful member, but our hearts are sustained when we realize that our loss is Heaven's gain.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ollie Marshall Sims, Gadsden, two sons, Henry Marshall Sims, Columbia, and Doctor David Sims, Gadsden; two daughters, Mrs. Ollie V. Sims, Cleveland, Ohio, and Mrs. Margaret B. Sims Goodwin, Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Dorcas Adams, Gadsden; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Esther Ruth Butler Sims, Columbia, and Mrs. Hattie Jacques Sims, Gadsden; two sons-in-law, Isom Sims, Cleveland, Ohio, and Arthur Goodwin, Columbia; 15 grandchildren, 17 nieces and nephews and many other sorrowing relatives and friends.
