Willie James Seymore, the son of Edith and the late Andrew Seymore, was bom February 14th, 1955 in Richmond County. He departed this life February 3rd, 1994.
At an early age, Willie was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church, where he served faithfully until he moved to Jacksonville where he continued faithful service at Bethel Baptist Church.
Willie received his primary education in the public schools of Richmond County. He continued his education at Jacksonville University where he graduated in 1976, receiving a degree in music.
His employment included: Director of Student Activities at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville and as a teacher for Duval County School Board.
In the community of Jacksonville, Willie was actively involved with the performing arts in the area of music and dance. 'Willie Seymore and Friends" was a dance group organized by Willie in 1977 in Jacksonville. This group not only performed locally in Jacksonville but also performed nationally. In 1978, this group performed in Charleston, South Carolina at the annual Spoleto festival. He was also a member of the following organizations: Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Professional Fraternity, Alpha Psi Omega Honorary Theatrical Fraternity, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Jacksonville Ballet Theater.
Survivors include: parents; brother, Reginald Elim; grandmother, Margaret Scott; aunts, Mary Thompson, Cleveland, OH, Wilma Williams, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Naomi Dozier, Salters, SC and Thelma Matthews, Augusta, GA; uncles, Dearie D. Dozier, Salters, SC, Jimmie Thompson, Cleveland, OH and Samuel W. Williams, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; he also leaves a host o f cousins and friends who cherish his memory.
