Mr. Jesse (Hodie) Rouse was the son of the late Mr. Lace and Eliza Rouse. He departed this life Thursday, February 28, 1985, at his residence. He was born May 13, 1897, in Willington, South Carolina, and lived in Lincolnton, Georgia, most of his life. He was united with the New Tabernacle Baptist Church in 1912 under the guidance of the late Rev. Simmon, where he served as chairman of the deacon board and superintendent of the Sunday school faithfully until his death. He was president of the Twilight Improvement Association, a member of NAACP, and was a very active citizen of Lincoln County.
He married Nettie Hick on March 19, 1916, and fathered nine children.
He leaves to mourn a wife of 68 years, Mrs. Nettie Rouse, Lin colnton; two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Lanier and Mrs. Nora A. Pope of Augusta, Ga.; five sons, Thomas and Spurgon, Detroit, Michigan, Alex of Lincolnton, Ga., John of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and James Rouse of Augusta, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Starks of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mrs. Clara Wynn of Lincolnton, Ga.; a brother, Mr. Lace Rouse of Tignall, Ga.; one son-in-law, Mr. W. J. Pope of Augusta, Ga.; five daughters-in-law, Evelyn, Bessie, Gertrude, Ann, and Sandra Rouse; one brother-in-law, Mr. Charlie Wynn; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Louise Rouse; thirty grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was a noMe husband and father Loved by all he knew
Everyone he tried to help And smiled the whole day through.
He served and loved his Master And tried His will to do
Was always helping others A life so noble, kind and true.
We shall miss his bright smile And all his loving ways
But well try to live for Jesus And meet him at the end of our days.
