"And God shall wipe away all tearsfrom their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for theformer things are passed away."
~ Revelations 21:4

The Eternal Homegoing o f Eugene Robinson, Sr. has called us together today to celebrate the life and legacy o f one we all love.

Sunday, June 28, 2009 our Creator received His beloved son who was a loving father, a devoted grandfather and great grandfather, a dedicated brother and a friend to all.

Eugene Robinson, Sr. was born May 12, 1923 in Reynolds, Georgia to Frank and Sollie Robinson. Although he was the seventh child in a family o f nine children, he often functioned as if he were the oldest. His parents along with six o f his siblings, Buddy, Bessie, Pauline, Willie, Ben and Maggie, preceded him in death. Gene, as his friends affectionately called him, possessed an uncanny openness to learning from his experiences. To his children, he had several affectionate names, "Dad", "Dino" and "Hebrew". Most o f the children who knew him in the neighborhood and at church called him "Pappa Gene". To all the children that were impacted by his life, he will always be remembered as a father who provided direction when needed, one who played with us and shared his life experiences often. Accepting Christ at an early age, Gene was a devoted member o f the Hale Street Baptist Church for more than fifty years. He also served as a faithful Trustee for many years until his health would not allow him to continue.

Gene married Ethel Moody in January o f1945. From this union, nine children were born. He served honorably in World War II in the Army Air Corps. For many years, Gene was very active in the VFW (Veterans o f Foreign Wars) and AmVets Organizations. He took advantage o f his GI Bill educational benefits by starting his own roofing company and became on o f the most accomplished construction roofers in the Central Savannah River Area. In the early 60's, he took great pride in establishing his own company Robinson Roofing Company which operated successfully for more than twenty years.

For many years when thefamily gathered on New Years Day, he offered annual blessings o f the meal. When he felt especially good, he did not mind you seeing his emotions flow. Gene encouraged and pushed his children to achieve the best in life. He worked hard, gave o f himselfgenerously and faced many difficult situations courageously.

To Those I Love And Those Who Love Me
When I am gone, release me, let me go, I have so many things to see and do. You musn't tie yourself to me with tears. Be happy that we had so many beautiful years.
I gave to you my love, you can only guess, how much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, but now it's time I traveled on alone. So grieve a while for me, ifgrieve you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's onlyfor a while that we must part, So bless the memories within your heart. I won't be Jar away, for life hoes on. So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near. And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear All my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone . . . I'll greet you with a smile and say Welcome Home..." Absentfrom the body, present with the Lord.

Perhaps you sang a lovely song or sat quietly in a chair, perhaps you sent beautifulflowers; if so, we saw them there. Perhaps you sent or spoke kind words; as any friend can say, perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day. Perhaps you prepared some tastyfood or maybe furnished a car, perhaps you rendered a service unseen, near at hand or from afar. Whatever
you did to console the heart, we thank you so much, whatever the part.
