Hands by A lbrecht Durer, the s o - c a lle d ` p erfect artist' --w hose woodcut and copper engravings were major e x p r e s s i o n s of h is art. He u s e d many religio u s themes, and was noted for his sen sitiv e and detailed drawings. The story is that these were the hands o f som eone who had great faith in his ability, and worked to help him attain his artistic training; that in the p rocess, their own hands becam e so gnarled as to be incap ab le o f equal work; and in gratitude, and because he saw their labor of love as beautiful, he immortalized the hands.
