Katie Williams Reid was born September 29, 1933 in Eastover, SC. The daughter of Mary Jackson Williams and the late James Williams, Sr. departed this life on Sunday, September 5, 1993.
Katie accepted Christ at an early age and joined Beaulah Baptist Church in Hopkins, SC. She later joined Clinton Chapel A. M. E. Zion Church in York, SC where she worked faithfully until her illness.
At Clinton Chapel, Katie served as president of the Choir, member of the Stewardess Board, Steward Board treasurer, life member of the Woman's Home & Overseas Missionary Society, and coordinator of the Young Women's Department.
Katie received her public school education in the Columbia City schools. She received her Bachelor degree in Elementary Education from Benedict College, Columbia, SC and Master of Education from Winthrop College, Rock Hill, SC.
Her compassion and personal understanding gave strength to many with whom she taught and worked. She served as a classroom teacher in York School District No. 1 for 22 years. One year as a Principal Intern and 9 years as Director of Elementary Education/Chapter One Coordinator and District Test Coordinator.
She was a member of numerous pro fessional organizations.
Mrs. Reid gave and donated her entire life and services to her family and friends. She was a Charter Member of

Eta Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Charter Member of Western York County Optimist Club, United Way Board of Directors and York County Hospice Board of Directors.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her husband, Heyward Walter Reid; two daughters, Wanda Maria Reid of the home, and Lisa Yvette Reid of Columbia, SC; her mother, Mary J. Williams of Eastover, SC; three sisters, Teresa W. Roddey of Rock Hill, SC, Mary W. Adams of Gadsden, SC, and Carrie W. Cotton of Saginaw, Michigan; three brothers, Charlie P. Williams of Eastover, SC, Robert Williams of Gadsden, SC, and Freddie J. Williams of Saginaw, Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Dunnemann of York, SC and Lillian Williams of Gadsden, SC; three brothers-in-law, Rev. Osbey Roddey of Rock Hill, SC, Doctor Adams, Sr. of Gadsden, SC and Johnny Cotton of Saginaw, Michigan; and, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
You have not lost your loved one She has only crossed the stream, She travels notv above the stars
Beyond their brightest beam.
She placed her hand in God's hand And answered His last call,
She has reached a plain above the sky Where there is room for all.
No pain there is in this fair land No sorrow and no strife;
But love and peace and happiness She has found the heavenly life.
