Lloyd Kermit Reese was born the 5th of nine children to the late Richard C. Reese, Sr. and the late Alberta Davis Reese on May 29, 1912 in Jenkins County, Georgia. Two of the siblings, James Reese

and Claudia Mae Briggs preceded him to the great beyond. Three died in infancy.
At an early age, Lloyd was converted and baptized at the William Grove Baptist Church in Jenkins County. Upon making Augusta his home, he joined the Antioch Baptist Church where he served un tiringly until his health failed as a member of the Trustee Board, a member of the1'Board of Deacons, and Chairman of the Board of Deacons for years. He lent his time and talents to any cause Antioch sponsored to the glory of God.

He received his early education in the public schools in his native Jenkins County. Upon graduation from high school he entered Paine College where he earned the B. A. Degree in 1938.

His first teaching position was at the Jenkins County High School where he served for two years. Like most young men of his

generation he served his country honorably in World W ar II but resumed the task of educating Augusta's children when the conflict ended. He entered New York University where he earned the Masters Degree. For more than forty years he made ex cellent use of his skills as an educator. Thirty-two of his years in education were served as he carried the role as principal. He provided leadership as Principal of the Springfield Elementary School and the Old Peter H. Craig Elementary School. His Ad ministrative skills were recognized and his record of success in the management of these two charges brought him the distinction of being named the first principal of the New Peter H. Craig Elementary School, the first principal at A. R. Johnson Jr. High School and the first principal of the T. W. Josey High School.

His community service includes the American Red Cross, the Y.M.C.A.. the United W ay and the Professional Organizations representing Educators.

He was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity who honored him for service to the fraternitv and to the community in
1984.

Lloyd and Laura Johnson were united in holy matrimony in the early forties. This loving relationship was blessed with four children. One child, Valeria La Verne preceded him in death.

This beautiful life of service ended Thursday. February 25. 1988 at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Augusta, Georgia, Downtown Division.

Survivors include: his devoted wife, Mrs. Laura J. Reese; three daughters. Mrs. Bernice Handy of Wilmington. Del., Mrs. Barbara Lockhart of Miami, Fla. and Miss Lauren Deidre Reese of Augusta. G a.: one son. Lloyd Reese of Augusta, G a.; a sister, Mrs. Alberta R. Jones of New York City: two brothers. Carl E. Reese of Augusta. G a.. and Beniamin F. Reese of New York; one son-in-law, James Lockhart of Miami. Fla.: two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Inez Reese of New York and Mrs. Alice Reese of Augusta, G a.; four grandchildren, Yolanda Lockhart and James Kermit Lockhart of Miami. Fla., Barry Coger and Brian Coger of Wilmington, Del., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
